The proof? Their eagerness to watch the documentary on McEnroe, which will hit the British theatres tomorrow. Yesterday, the 13th of July, two days prior to the release of his documentary, McEnroe opened up about his opinion on why people would watch his documentary.

The role of honesty in the life of John McEnroe

Winding up with his role of Wimbledon presenter, McEnroe recently indulged in a conversation with a media house. During the conversation, he started by talking about the role of honesty in his personal as well as professional life.

“I believe that I try to be honest in life.” “When I do commentary, it’s obviously a different form of honesty. I mean you talking about … you are being the backseat drive,” he admitted.

 

McEnroe reached heights of success, having the racquet in his hand. However, that wasn’t the case with him on his personal front. Going back in time, McEnroe married actress Tatum O’Neill in 1986. However, 8 years after their marriage, the two divorced each other in an ugly spat. The divorce reportedly involved the claims of drug use, violent tempers, and escalating fights.

38 years since then, McEnroe has reportedly opened up about his personal life in the upcoming documentary. However, despite being a loved entity, he still isn’t sure whether or not people would want to hear about it. “With this, I’m talking about my life. So that makes it trickier at times. It brings a couple of beads of sweat at times because you’re like, oh God, you know, do people even want to hear this?” he said.

The thought process while making the documentary

Despite all the success, an undeniable fact is that McEnroe has had a highly controversial life. On a personal as well as professional front. The American grace has time and again been criticized for his doings. However, in many cases, what many don’t know is McEnroe’s side of the story. Going ahead in the conversation, the 63-year-old opened up about the thoughts that crossed his mind while going ahead with the documentary.

“I also asked myself; why do people even want to watch a documentary about me at this point in my life? So, you have to give something and open up about what your life has been like.

Even though he raised doubts about why people would watch his documentary, he went ahead, expressing his understanding of why people should watch his documentary. “I feel like the journey is interesting, hopefully, and that people can relate to some of the things that I went through as a human being. Also, at least understand a little bit more of what it was like at the time, way back when and the way I tried to navigate my way through,” he admitted.

While McEnroe expressed his thoughts during the conversation, he now awaits to see whether or not the viewers will shower the same amount of love on the documentary as they used to shower on him during his playing days. The documentary, titled, ‘McEnroe’, is set to hit the British theatres tomorrow. However, the American audience will have to wait till September 2nd to enjoy the story of John McEnroe.
