1999 was decent but a great year for Pete Sampras! He won his sixth Wimbledon crowd and achieved victories in Los Angeles and Cincinnati. Additionally, off the tennis court, he met his wife, Bridgette Wilson, who was an actress at the time. Since then, the 14-time Grand Slam champion has been married for over two decades now, and it’s definitely one of the matches made in heaven, or at least that’s what Sampras believes in.

Pete Sampras got married to Bridgette Wilson on September 30, 2000. But it all started in 1999 when the American tennis legend was dominating the tennis world. However, romantically, he hadn’t found a perfect match for himself. As fate would have it, he soon found love in a popular actress of that era, Wilson. She is a former American actress, singer, and model. She was also named the 1990 Miss Teen USA, back in her acting days.

But after getting married to the former world number one and becoming a mother, she gave up her acting career for the family. The 50-year-old American actress is a loving mother to two sons, and they live a quiet life in Lake Sherwood, California, US. While the couple likes to keep their lives personal, just a day ago, a statement from the 14-time Grand Slam champion created chaos among their fans.

Sampras, via ATP Tours’ official social media page, emphasized her wife’s current health condition, breaking out the fact that last December she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Having the sons by their side, the whole family is united in fighting against cancer.

Bridgette Wilson’s ravishing acting career

Wilson began her acting career by playing the role of Lisa Fenimore in the show ‘Santa Barbara’ from 1992 to 1993. After that, she made her acting debut in the movie ‘Last Action Hero’. She has also done some of the popular movies of that time, including the 1999 ‘House on Haunted Hill’ and ‘The Wedding Planner’, which was released in 2001.

After getting engaged on May 29, 2000, the bride-to-be Wilson, was not only planning her own wedding but also acting in ‘The Wedding Planner’, which was released in the year when she got married. In that movie, she played the role of a bride-to-be and acted alongside Matthew McConaughey. Jennifer Lopez starred in the picture as well, making it one of the best ones to open in theaters.

After that, she has also made some special appearances in other shows and movies, including ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’, with Brad and Angelina, and ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’. However, after giving birth to a second child in 2005, she only acted in one movie in 2008 before ending her glamorous career. Apparently, her last movie was the ‘Phantom Punch’, which dealt with the personal and professional lives of a boxer. In Steve Flink’s book, ‘Pete Sampras: Greatness Revisited’, the 52-year-old also emphasized that his wife always wanted to be a family person first, and then an actress.  After getting married, although she has done fewer movies, she was often seen during Sampras’ matches, cheering him up as a proud wife.

The couple’s unending support for one another

Since the time the couple got married, they were at the peak of their careers. The same year Sampras got married to his lady love, he won a Wimbledon title too. But after that, he was not able to perform well for the next 2 years until he came back to win the 2002 US Open, after which he retired from the sport. Whether it be a victory on the tennis court or an injury stopping the 14-time Grand Slam champion from giving his best, Bridgette Wilson was always by his side, sharing her unconditional support for her husband.

The 50-year-old American actress was not alone in supporting her husband, as Sampras has also been quite supportive. As Wilson has been battling cancer for the past year, just like a caring husband, the American tennis legend has not left her wife’s side. Both of them have displayed what true meaning of love.
