Grigor Dimitrov’s relationship with tennis has been a rollercoaster. “You’ve broken my heart more than once, but I thank you for it,” he once said in a heartfelt tribute to the sport. After reaching World No. 3 in 2017, the Bulgarian made a comeback to the Top 10 in 2024. However, 2025 has been a tough ride, with early exits at the Australian Open, the Middle East, a Miami heartbreak, and a crushing Monte Carlo loss. Yet, his Madrid Open campaign started strong with a win over Nicolás Jarry. Air suggests his recent form may be fueled by his rumored girlfriend, Eiza González, who celebrated his win with a kiss. However, who is the lucky lady by his side though?

Grigor Dimitrov kicked off his Madrid Open journey in style on Saturday, April 26, entering the 2nd round after a first-round bye. Facing familiar rival Nicolás Jarry, just like at the Monte-Carlo Masters R64, Dimitrov made quick work of the Chilean once again, winning 6-3, 6-4 in just an hour and 39 minutes.

After sealing the victory, Dimitrov rushed to the stands to celebrate with his team. However, it wasn’t just his coaches cheering him on. Hollywood stars Eva Longoria and Eiza González were spotted courtside, animatedly supporting the Bulgarian. Dimitrov even exchanged a high-five with Longoria, while González, adding fuel to the rumor mill, held his hand, and planted a sweet peck on his cheek!

But who exactly is Eiza González?

Born in Mexico City on January 30, 1990, González is the only daughter of former model Glenda Reyna and Carlos González. Her father’s death in a motorcycle accident when she was 12 profoundly impacted her and became a significant motivation in her career. She has an older brother, 12 years her senior.

González received her education at two private bilingual schools in Mexico City: Edron Academy and the American School Foundation. Around the age of 10, she spent time in Trento, Italy, where she has family, to learn Italian.

Her formal acting training began at the M&M Studio in Mexico City from 2003 to 2004. Subsequently, she enrolled in Televisa’s Centro de Educación Artística, completing two years of the three-year program before landing her breakthrough role as the lead in the teen telenovela Lola…Érase una vez in 2007, at the age of 16.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Eiza González's support be the secret weapon Dimitrov needs to reclaim his tennis glory?

Have an interesting take?

Interesting fact: Gonzalez speaks Italian fluently and some French.

Since her early success, González has built a notable career in American productions. She played a leading role in the horror series From Dusk till Dawn: The Series (2014–2016) and has appeared in several action-packed films, including Baby Driver (2017), Alita: Battle Angel (2019), Bloodshot (2020), and Ambulance (2022). More recently, in 2024, she starred in the science fiction series 3 Body Problem and the action-comedy film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Aside from her acting career, Eiza has also made her mark in music with albums like Contracorriente (2009) and Te Acordarás de Mí (2012).

Known for her high-profile relationships, from Josh Duhamel to Jason Momoa, Eiza’s dating life has always attracted attention, and now it seems Grigor Dimitrov has entered that glamorous orbit. Though speculation had been swirling for weeks, her courtside appearance, alongside Longoria, almost confirmed that the duo might be more than just friends.

Just yesterday, Longoria, no stranger to tennis events, attended Novak Djokovic’s R64 match against Matteo Arnaldi. But it was González’s beaming support for Dimitrov that stole the headlines, bringing a wave of Hollywood glamor to the Madrid Open courts.

Interesting fact: In Spanish naming convention, González is her first, or paternal, surname, and Reyna is her second, or maternal, family name.

Dimitrov, famed for his effortless style both on and off the court, has long been linked to the entertainment world. His past relationship with pop icon Nicole Scherzinger is still fresh in public memory, and his effortless charm continues to bridge the worlds of tennis and celebrity. Yet beyond the glitz, a serious tennis challenge remains, though.

While Eiza’s kiss lit up the stands, Dimitrov’s 2025 season has been a rough ride. With his Madrid run now underway, fans hope the Bulgarian can rediscover his best form, and maybe, just maybe, find a little extra magic both on and off the court.

Grigor Dimitrov opened up about his “stop and go” form in the new season

Grigor Dimitrov has struggled to string together a successful campaign so far in the new season. Currently ranked 16th, the Bulgarian began the year with a mid-match retirement against Jiri Lehecka in the semifinals of the Brisbane International, where he was the defending champion. A groin and hip injury also derailed his AO hopes, forcing another mid-match retirement against Francesco Passaro in the first round. Subsequent withdrawals from Rotterdam and early exits in Qatar and Dubai only compounded his rocky start to the season.

Dimitrov found some rhythm during the Sunshine Double, making the 4th round at Indian Wells, although he was dismantled by Carlos Alcaraz 6-1, 6-1. In Miami, he came close to defending his 2024 runner-up finish but ultimately lost to Novak Djokovic, 6-2, 6-3. His Monte-Carlo Masters campaign started on a brighter note, reaching the QF. Unfortunately, his Monte-Carlo run ended later with a horrendous 6-0, 6-0 defeat to Alex de Minaur in the QF. Afterall, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

After his opening-round win there against Nicolás Jarry, Dimitrov candidly admitted his 2025 form felt very weird and strange. “The beginning of the year, very weird and strange at the same time, it was just stop and go, I wasn’t able to compete well in any of the tournaments. My movement was also a little bit off, so there’s so many things that were going against it but you have to stay strong, in our sport the most important thing is to be resilient, that’s it. Just do your work every single day,” Dimitrov told Tennis Channel

Now, with a star-studded celebrity presence in his box at Madrid, Dimitrov hopes to turn the tide. The veteran next faces British qualifier Jacob Fearnley on Monday, April 28, for a spot in the 4th round. Will he rise to the occasion?
