Is Botic van de Zandschulp's love life the secret behind his recent on-court success?

Botic Van de Zandschulp just delivered the most stunning upset of the US Open by defeating four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets (6-1, 7-5, 6-4) in the second round of the tournament. As the tennis fraternity is coming to terms with the shocker, guess who is one of the first to hail the Dutchman?

It is none other than his rumored girlfriend, Floor Isabel’t Hart. She shared a post by the US Open declaring Zandschulp’s win in her Instagram stories, moments after the match was over and added three fiery emojis as the caption. While Zandschulp’s family has his parents, Jan and Ingrid, and a sibling, Melvin, his relationship with Floor has garnered much fan attention, partly because no one has learned much about her. Here is all that we know about her so far.

According to Hart’s Instagram, with the username @floorthart, she is a student and a travel enthusiast. With over 2600 followers on IG, the profile gives a sneak peek into her life. As far as Hart’s social media presence goes, she enjoys her time with her gang of girls, visiting beaches, and partying, while living her best life. But how long she has been hooked to Zandschulp? Well, it has been fairly long, we can say.

Hart made an Instagram post on May 26, 2022, featuring a series of pictures of her with Zandschulp while writing, “Little anniversary. Exactly 11 years ago, we went on our first date.” In November 2022, Hart and Zandschulp went on a Bali trip. As usual, the photogenic Hart, in a joint post with Zandschulp, shared a few glimpses of the two of them enjoying the water sports. The post was captioned, “Who is having more fun?” The two follow each other on Instagram, too.

As per Tennis Tonic, before the highly anticipated fourth-round clash at 2022 Wimbledon, where Botic Van de Zandschulp faced the legendary Rafael Nadal, the Dutch tennis star enjoyed some downtime with Hart. Is it only companionship that keeps the two together? Probably not.

It seems that tennis has been a unifying factor for the two. In October last year, on her Instagram, Hart posted some images and videos of herself practicing on clay courts. The caption read in Dutch, “Liefde voor deze sport💙”, read, “Love for this sport💙”, in English. Not only for the sport, Hart never shies away from expressing her affection for Botic Van de Zandschulp.

Last year, on the 4th of October, Hart took to her Instagram account to share a series of pictures of her and her partner as she wished him on his 27th birthday. Along with that, the caption read, “Happy birthday to the best,” followed by a red balloon. The series of adorable pictures made fans gush over how nice they look together. Not only that, but last year she was also there to support him during the Davis Cup, as Zandschulp called her his “biggest fan”. All that being said, do not think, that Zandschulp is a bolt from the blue on the tennis court.

Van De Zandschulp: A new legacy in making?

In the second round match of the US Open in the Arthur Ashe Stadium, Alcaraz was completely off the track with 27 unforced errors and only winning 40 percent of his break point opportunities. Zandschulp, the current 74-ranked player, brought Alcaraz to his knees in a court where the latter won the title in 2022.

With the win, Zandschulp became the first Dutchman to take down a top-three player at a Grand Slam since Richard Krajicek beat Pete Sampras in the 1996 Wimbledon quarterfinals. However, this is not the first time Zandschulp has shocked everyone by defeating a fan favorite.

He defeated current world No. 12 Taylor Fritz in the ATP Munich semifinals in 2023. Eventually, he fell to Denmark’s Holger Rune in the final for the second consecutive year. There is more to it.

He beat world current No. 8 Casper Ruud of Norway on his way to the ATP Munich final in 2022. The current No. 6 Andrey Rublev of Russia also became his victim while Zandschulp landed in the St. Petersburg semifinal in 2021. In fact, he is not a complete stranger when it comes to the US Open as well.

In 2021, the Wageningen, Netherlands native, became only the third men’s qualifier to land in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open since 1968. In that run, he also became the first Dutchman to reach a Grand Slam quarterfinal since 2004.

With Van de Zandschulp’s win against Alcaraz, he advances to Round 3, where he will face No. 25 seed Great Britain’s Jack Draper, who looked strong in his straight-sets win over Argentina’s Facundo Diaz Acosta. Do you think Zandschulp will pull off more upset wins in the coming days?
