Talking about the rising stars, Alex Michelsen has stunned everyone with his rapid rise in the tennis world. Born in the United States, this 19-year-old prodigy has been on a steady rise which has defied expectations. Not only this, he has also come to the notice of many with this remarkable feat. Hailing from a family of former tennis professionals, he had his sights set on the big stage.
Currently playing in the ATP Next Gen Finals, the young ATP star was ranked 1081 in the ATP rankings last year. However, this year saw a remarkable turnaround from him as he managed to climb to the 94th spot in the ranking. That is something very huge compared to a 19-year-old’s standards. This is mainly because he played a lot of Challenger Series where he saw victories that helped him climb a massive feat.
“Not really. Not yet,” Michelsen said when he entered the top 200 in the ATP rankings. “I’m ranked 190 now. Seeing that next to my name on the ATP site is a little crazy. I never really thought, if you would have told me a year ago, I’d be Top 200 now. I’d be like, ‘Whoa, no way.’ So yeah, I don’t think I processed it. So hopefully, I can just stay in shock this week and just keep playing good tennis.”

Alex Michelsen’s Decision to Turn Pro
It was back in August 2023 when Alex Michelsen, who was committed to attending the University of Georgia, announced his decision to turn professional. It was a crucial step in his career. However, in an interview, he also revealed that he had no intentions of making it pro in the tennis world.
“Before COVID, I was in regular high school, I played high school tennis,” Michelsen said in ‘Behind the Racquet’ podcast. “I was good… I was still a solid tennis player but I never thought I’d be playing the ITF juniors to the [junior] slams to futures [tournaments].”
But as he started his career, success followed him. Playing in the prestigious Easter Bowl tournament in 2022, he managed to capture both the singles and doubles titles. Then, playing at Wimbledon, he managed to bag glory as he won the doubles title along with his partner Sebastian Gorzny.
