The age for achieving greatness in sports in general and tennis in particular is decreasing day by day. From Coco Gauff to Ben Shelton, we are seeing a host of youngsters who are creating waves in the tennis circuit. Among them is a rising star from Australia, Adam Walton. Coming from a country that has had renowned tennis players like Lleyton Hewitt and Ashleigh Barty, Walton is dubbed to achieve big things.

The 24-year-old is currently in the spotlight after qualifying for the Miami Open, his maiden ATP 1000 Masters appearance. Let’s find out more about him.

Adam Walton: The Untold Story

Born in Brisbane, Walton had strong tennis roots coming from a region known for the sport. He took to the sport at a young age and also had massive success in the tournaments. Further, he also played college tennis at the University of Tennessee. During his stint there, Walton won the 2021 NCAA doubles title with Pat Harper.

The year collided with American tennis sensation, Ben Shelton, who won the NCAA men’s team title. A year later, Shelton and Walton went up against each other in the semifinals of the men’s singles at the NCAA Championships. Shelton won that match in three sets and went on to win the title.

Further, Walton is having a breakthrough 2024 campaign. Earlier this year, he qualified in the ATP tournament for the first time in Adelaide. Subsequently, he also made his maiden Grand Slam appearance at the Australian Open. With his position secured in the Miami Open main draw, the Aussie star is riding high on confidence.

Walton sounds confident ahead of a big test

The 24-year-old will face a tough test in the opening round of the Miami Open. He will be up against former world No.6 Felix Auger-Aliassime from Canada. Despite the tough draw, Walton is confident because he believes in his preparations.

He said, “I feel like my level has definitely increased a lot over the last year or two to where I’m able to match it with these guys. I do still feel like I could use some more exposure to these top guys. So the more matches I can play against these quality players, the more it’s going to help me.”

Adam Walton will look to improve his ranking from the 134th spot that he is at currently. A strong performance in Miami will do a world of good to him in this matter. His first-round match will take place tomorrow.
