A new season is in for Novak Djokovic. After a disappointing end to a 2024 season where he just managed to bag an Olympic gold (which was his ultimate dream), he made certain changes to his team and appointed Andy Murray as his coach, which came as a shocker to the tennis world. Now, having made his way into the quarter-finals of the Australian Open, who are the other team members in the Serbian’s squad?

At the Paris Masters in 2023, Novak Djokovic took one of the harshest decisions of his life. He confirmed the departure of his long-time agent, Edoardo Artaldi, who had been by Djokovic’s side for 15 years. Elena Cappellaro, Djokovic’s head of communications, also left the team along with the agent. While Djokovic did not specify the reasons for these departures, he assured the changes were amicable.

“We remain friends, but professionally we’re going our separate ways,” Djokovic told Tennis Majors. He added, “A new chapter begins for me in everything concerning my life off the court. The transition isn’t easy, but things are moving forward.”

However, Djokovic, back then, did not finalize his new agent. Neither the Serbian nor the ATP have announced a replacement. A source close to Djokovic back then revealed, “He hasn’t made up his mind yet, as the team surrounding him is still being put together.”

In Paris, back in 2023, Djokovic was accompanied by his then Italian physio Marco Panichi, his brother Djordje, and his business advisor Mark Madden. Madden, accredited by the ATP, has worked closely with Djokovic in recent months. He was seen alongside Djokovic at various events, including at the sidelines of the Ryder Cup three weeks ago. At the event, Djokovic said, “My caddy Mark Madden is my business advisor. He lives in Wentworth, he grew up with Luke Donald, and Luke asked me to come, and I accepted the invitation.”

Madden also attended the Rugby World Cup Final in Paris with Djokovic. The Serbian star appeared at the Stade de France alongside Madden, where he watched South Africa defeat New Zealand in a thrilling match. Last year, Madden even won the election to the ATP Tour, agent committee, and now holds a 2-year term. Since then, he has been the agent for the Serbian and has been one of the key figures in his team.

Novak Djokovic’s eternity in tennis could be credited to his fitness trainer Gebhard Phil-Gritsch

Novak Djokovic’s ability to recover from injuries and stay at the top is impressive. The year 2024 was not relatively good for him as he reached only one grand slam final. However, an Olympic gold medal covered it up for him. Despite these setbacks, Djokovic’s strength and determination have kept fans hopeful, and much of this is thanks to his fitness coach, Gebhard Phil-Gritsch.

Years ago, people thought Djokovic’s fitness wasn’t as good as his rivals Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. To improve, he brought in Gritsch, famous for coaching Austrian clay-court specialist Thomas Muster to the No. 1 ranking during the 1990s. “I felt that I needed a change,” Djokovic had said. “I needed something new to improve.”

Although they parted ways briefly in 2017 and 2019, Djokovic and Gritsch reunited in May 2023. Talking about their work together, Djokovic said, “We know each other really well. We’re synchronized in terms of what we want to do.”

With Gritsch back on his team, fans believe Djokovic can overcome his recent injury concerns and perform well in upcoming tournaments. This partnership shows Djokovic’s commitment to working with trusted people who understand his needs.
