Aryna Sabalenka was eyeing her third consecutive Australian Open title, but Madison Keys spoiled all her plans with an incredible fightback! After ending her 20-match winning streak, Sabalenka was seen breaking her racket and throwing it against her chair. After seeing this angry outburst from the current world number one, Jo Durie, who was commentating on that match for Eurosport said, “I think it’s just a shame that she (Sabalenka) did that. I know that she is going for a third [title] and emotions are running high. It does [take something away from Keys’ moment].”
Even Naomi Cavaday was heard saying, “I think maybe a little bit disappointing to see that reaction from Sabalenka.” So, there was a fair bit of controversy after the women’s final. Are we going to see something similar after the men’s final as well? Time will tell, but talking about controversies, we all know John McEnroe is never too far away from creating controversies during his commentary.
Remember last year during the Australian Open, when John McEnroe came under fire for doing “zero research” for his commentary roles? During the first-round match of Stefanos Tsitsipas against Belgium’s Zizou Bergs, he was heard admitting that he didn’t know anything about the Belgian. After hearing this tennis player Thai-Son Kwiatkowski said, “Insane to me that time and time again J. McEnroe goes on air and just admits he has zero clue who a player is.”
Even renowned, tennis journalist, Ben Rothenberg took aim at the American tennis legend by saying, “It’s not only disrespectful to the players, it’s disrespectful to the audience at home to be that unprepared, especially when given plenty of time to prep and a whole production crew ready to get you up to speed.” Not only that even during the 2024 French Open, fans were seen quite displeased with his commentary. However, keeping these controversies aside, let’s now shift back our focus to this epic grand finale.

Speaking about this match against Zverev, Jannik Sinner said, “We’ve had some very tough matches in the past. Everything can happen. He’s an incredible player. He’s looking for his first major. There is going to be a lot of tension again, but I’m happy to play in this position. Sundays are always special days in tournaments, and I’m going to enjoy it.” Interestingly, the German is currently leading 4-2 in the H2H record against Sinner!
Alexander Zverev was seen heaping praise on the world number one before this match. He said, “Look, I think Jannik has been the best player in the world for the past 12 months. There’s no doubt about it. Won two Grand Slams. Has been very, very stable in those regards. So definitely one of the best players in the world.” Both the players are standing just one step away from creating a historic moment in their careers. Who do you think will ultimately manage to seal this deal on Super Sunday?
