Tennis runs deep in Tallon Griekspoor’s veins! The 27-year-old Dutchman is all set to take on the world number 4, Alexander Zverev in just a few minutes from now. Beating Zverev in a mega-tournament is a mammoth task, especially when you’re 21 ranks behind him! Griekspoor needs to follow his father’s advice if he really wants to stand a chance against the mighty German tennis star. But what is that tiny bit of advice?
Both of his parents are sports enthusiasts. His father, Ron, is in fact a former motocross driver, and his mother, Monique, is a tennis instructor. Tallon Griekspoor is very lucky to have such sports personnel in his house with whom he can easily discuss a little bit about his game whenever he wants. Once he revealed that he got the best advice of his life from his father: “My dad would tell me to always work hard no matter where you are in life. Always work hard, be humble, and just be yourself”.

Tallon Griekspoor started playing at the age of 5, inspired by his twin brothers, Scott and Kevin who are five years older than him and played professional tennis. While Scott’s career-high ranking was 205, while Kevin’s best record was reaching number 655. Tallon even once teamed up with Kevin to play a doubles event in Greece in 2017. Speaking about his brothers, Grieki once stated, “I’ve always had them to look up to. They were always better than me until a certain age. I would always practice with them, travel with them. Having that sports background means a lot.”

In January 2023, Griekspoor won his maiden Tour-level title at Tata Open Maharashtra in Pune, India. After winning this title he was asked what does this victory mean to him. Replying to that question, the Tallon said, “It means everything to me. It’s something you dream of and work for. There’s so many people involved, my family, my brothers, that mean the world to me. To do this also for them means the world to me, I couldn’t be more happy.”
Coming from the small city of Haarlem, outside of Amsterdam in the northwest Netherlands, and then becoming the top tennis player in the country wasn’t easy at all for him. But did you know if Tallon Griekspoor wasn’t a tennis player, he would probably become an F1 driver?

If not for tennis, Grieki could have just followed in his father’s footsteps! Once during an interview, he revealed, “I’m a big, big fan of Motocross. I can’t say that I like it more than tennis. But I like it as much as I like tennis. Like my dad, I did it when I was young. Those guys work so hard and it’s really physical. The feeling it gives you to ride this fast, it’s everything for me.” After knowing all these things about him, there’s one thing that fans must have now just got a confirmation about this Dutch tennis star. He likes speed! Is it the main reason behind his rapid rise in the tennis world over the last couple of years?
While in tennis, it’s Andy Murray who is his tennis idol, because of “the work he puts in…the drive he has and how hard he works is…”, in F1 Belgian-Dutch driver Max Verstappen is his hero, who is “probably the biggest sports hero we have”. Can he push himself to his limits against Zverev and bring one of the major upsets in the 2024 French Open?
