“My goal is to fulfill my potential of where I can go and just enjoy the process”– said Jack Draper. His incredible skills on-court are a testament to his resilience and unwavering spirit in overcoming all the challenges that come his way. Be his shoulder injuries or abdominal issues, Draper has conquered them all with sheer determination to excel in his career. However, behind every successful feat lies a line of support systems that push a person toward his goal. In Jack Draper’s case, it’s his family and their love for tennis.

Jack Draper’s run to the final of the Stuttgart Open has turned many heads in the tennis world. Although he has struggled with persistent injuries throughout most of his career, he is now determined to defy all odds and make his mark in tennis. The British player’s love for tennis is untouched, much like his family. Interestingly, he inherited his interest in tennis from both his father and mother. The 22-year-old player first picked up his racquet as a toddler. Soon, he was admitted to the Sutton Tennis and Squash Club to hone his skills along with his brother Ben, where their mother Nicky was a coach.

Draper’s mother’s love for tennis also began when she was a kid. Not only that, she was also a former top junior tennis player in her country, Britain. Besides, his father was also associated with tennis. Roger Draper once graced the position of chief executive of Sport, England.

Between the years 2006-2013, his father, Roger, also remained as CEO of the Lawn Tennis Association. Along with his parents, the former World No. 35 often went to various junior tennis events in the U.K. to refine his skills. Together, they helped Draper build an interest in tennis. “Believe it or not, he picked up a racket for the first time when he was just one and you could see from a very young age that Jack had incredible hand-eye coordination,” Nicky Draper once said in an interview.

However, when his parents got divorced, it left a deep impact on Jack Draper. It also made him leave tennis for a while. Nevertheless, the five-title winner of the ATP Challenger Tour found his way back to tennis soon. After turning pro in 2018, Draper is steadily moving forward to maintain “consistency” in his performance.

Jack Draper reflects on how he tackled ups and downs in his career

After he won three ATP Challenger Tour titles in 2022, the then-20-year-old player had a big smile on his face. However, as humble as he is, Jack Draper knew the importance of being grounded. The left-handed player once said, “Sometimes when you least expect it, you do great things. Sometimes, where you’ve done all the right things, it can totally go against you. It’s just trying to keep that line of consistency so that you’re not on these massive ups and downs.”

A believer in having the opportunity “to shine and do great things in tennis” every week, Jack Draper wants to “trust the process” as he moves ahead in his career. However, his current aim is to earn his first WTA Tour title at the Stuttgart Open today. With Matteo Berrettini on the opposite side of the net, fans are waiting to see Draper, armed with the love and support of his family, perform his best!
