With his stellar prowess, Arthur Fils has already clinched one ATP singles title at the mere age of 19. On top of this, the young French tennis sensation has also reached the world No. 34 ranking during his competitive journey. However, the 19-year-old ATP player’s remarkable success at a young age on the men’s tour isn’t the fruit of his labor alone.

Toiling behind Fils during his brilliant campaigns on the circuit have been his two coaches, who have also played competitive tennis before donning a coach’s hat. While one of his coaches was the captain of France’s Davis Cup team, the tennis prodigy has another mentor in his team, who is a 2-time singles Grand Slam champion.

Sébastien René Grosjean, who joined Arthur Fils’ coaching team in the previous season, made a significant impact on the ATP Tour before becoming a tennis coach. While he amassed 4 singles titles, the former French tennis player also reached the top 5 rankings during his competitive journey. Known for his adaptability to different playing surfaces, the tennis veteran reached the semifinals at the 2001 Australian and French Opens, and at Wimbledon in 2003 and 2004.

After putting down his racket in 2010, Grosjean decided to take the coaching duties for Richard Gasquet from 2011 to 2016 and he was also later named the Davis Cup captain for France. Back in 2023, the former number 4 player quit as captain of his country’s Davis Cup team to coach his young compatriot, Fils. While opening up about his ‘new chapter’ alongside the ATP prodigy, Grosjean hailed Fils an ‘exceptional player.’

He said, “Arthur is an exceptional player with immense potential, and I am confident that our collaboration will be fruitful. I have warm thoughts for the players and staff of the France team, with whom I had the pleasure of living unforgettable moments, and to whom I wish all the success they deserve in competition.” In addition to his compatriot, Fils’ coaching staff boasts another prominent figure in the tennis community.

There is a 2-time singles Grand Slam champion in Fils’ coaching team

Sergi Bruguera made some notable impressions on the men’s tour before he decided to bid adieu to the racket game in 2002. The Spanish former tennis player was a force to be reckoned with on clay court surfaces as he clinched consecutive men’s singles titles at the French Open in 1993 and 1994. On top of having a former number 3 ranking, Bruguera also won a silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Before joining hands with Arthur Fils, the 2-time singles Grand Slam champion has coached the likes of Alexander Zverev and Richard Gasquet. Aside from being a tennis coach, the Spanish tennis veteran has also taken on some authoritative roles, as he is the director of the Bruguera Tennis Academy Top Team.
