Federer relives glorious Wimbledon win over Sampras
The former World No.1 made his professional debut in 1998. However, his biggest moment came three years later, in 2001 at Wimbledon. Federer took to Instagram to go down memory lane with one of the most historic upsets in tennis history.“Where memories are born,”?the caption?read.

Federer was coming off winning the junior Wimbledon title in 1998, going past the first round for the first time. In the first meeting with his idol Sampras, Federer produced some of his best tennis against the American on a 31-match win streak at SW19.
Federer stunned the world keeping his cool winning 7-6 (7), 5-7, 6-4, 6-7 (2), 7-5. This was Sampras’ earliest elimination in over a decade at the All-England Club. Sampras won 7 titles between 1993 and 2000, with a solitary loss in 1996.
Unfortunately, Federer was beaten by crowd favorite Tim Henman in the quarter-finals that year. But, the young Federer was only getting started winning his first of eight titles two years later in 2003.

Will Roger Federer return to Wimbledon in 2023?
The 20-time Grand Slam champion has been out of action since his quarter-final exit last year. After suffering a knee injury, he is rehabilitating from a double surgery with a return expected later this year. However, at 40, Federer promises to go on hoping to participate in the Basel Open and Laver Cup later this year.
