Despite being at the top spot in the World ranking of tennis, Novak Djokovic is still not considered the GOAT by many. In light of recent events at the ATP Finals in Turin, many controversies have emerged. Pertaining to this, former Croatian legend Nikola Pilic spoke his mind and addressed a bigger issue surrounding the Serb. He also highlighted the GOAT conversation and dragged in the Swiss Maestro Roger Federer.
It is no secret that Novak Djokovic has critics as much as he has fans. This often leads to a biased treatment of the World’s No.1, and as a result, his achievements are mostly overshadowed.

Djokovic finds himself grappling not just with opponents on the court but also with a narrative that often seems stacked against him. A seasoned voice and an unwavering supporter of Djokovic, Pilic recently took a swing at the Western media’s portrayal of the Serbian sensation. Djokovic, perched at the summit of the tennis hierarchy, is no stranger to such controversy and criticism.
In a candid revelation, Pilic aired his frustrations with the Western press. He accused them of belittling Djokovic’s every triumph. In his words: “The Western press belittles every success of Novak and they don’t want to accept that he is the GOAT, and that is already a finished story.” He went on to illustrate his point with a striking example.
Pilic mentioned a German magazine featuring Roger Federer in a tuxedo on its front page. As per him: “What will Federer do on the front page the day after the tournament in Turin?” Pilic questioned the need to celebrate a retired player while Djokovic basked in a major victory.
With a touch of defiance, Pilic dissected the symbolic act and declared it a futile attempt to undermine Novak Djokovic’s triumph. “That’s their belittling, but in vain, Novak won and told them ‘arriveders’ guys.” In the face of detractors, Djokovic’s victories seem to be louder than the words of the naysayers.

Novak Djokovic’s struggle beyond the baseline
As Djokovic sought victory on the court at the ATP Finals in Turin, an unexpected adversary emerged, which was the crowd itself. Not only did the crowd withhold their support, but the organizers also orchestrated a telling snub.
In the lineup for a post-match photo session, Djokovic found himself relegated to the far end. On the other hand, Jannik Sinner was placed prominently in the middle, despite having lost to the World No.1.
