Novak Djokovic has won everything a tennis player ever hopes of winning. The Serbinator has managed to accumulate more slams and Masters than any player in ATP history. While he has one of the most glorious careers, one accomplishment still eludes him: an Olympic gold medal. As he shapes up to win more contests this year, Andy Roddick chooses the one that got away for Djokovic instead of another major victory.

Roddick recently appeared on the Tennis Channel Live Podcast, where he talked to Mark Petchey and Paul Annacone about all things Monte Carlo Masters and Billi Jean King Cup. The three dived deep into the third day of the current ATP 1000 tournament, which also saw Novak Djokovic emerge victorious over Lorenzo Musetti 7-5, 6-3.

Annacone asked the two whether they believe Djokovic would prefer a major title or an Olympic gold. Roddick replied, “I would just love for something good to finally happen to him. I guess gold, it’s like the only thing he doesn’t have. It’s hard to pass up a major I would assume. So I guess gold, but I mean, what the hell do we know?

Mark Petchey agreed with Roddick as he said, “It’s like, do you want a billion dollars in diamonds or a billion dollars in pearls? I’m saying because he doesn’t have it, I’m also gonna go with the Olympics.”

Both players believe that Djokovic will go for the Olympic gold, a thorn in his long list of achievements. While the Serb has also expressed that he won the gold medal at the Olympics, there is no confirmation of whether he will participate in the games or not.

Novak Djokovic’ can’t really commit’ to the Olympics in Los Angeles

The Serbinator is one of the few players who has shown excitement when it comes to playing for their country. He participates in any team competition where he has to play for Serbia. He won bronze in the first Olympics he played, and while the total stands at four Olympics participation so far, Djokovic is unsure of whether he will play this year

In the Indian Wells pre-tournament press conference, he said, “Everything is on the cards; uh, I just don’t know how many cards I have left. You know, let’s see, it’s still very far to think about the Los Angeles Olympic Games, but the thought of it excites me, and of course, I would love to play that.”

Although the idea is exciting to him, the World No. 1 also said that since it comes every four years, he cannot commit to the games as of now. His plan is to take the year as it comes, and if he feels fit for the Olympics, he will play in the tournament as well. How will his year take shape?
