Russian ATP Pro Daniil Medvedev delved deeper into his recent criticism regarding tennis at the Indian Wells 2024 tournament’s finals. Medvedev lost to Spain’s rising star in tennis, Carlos Alcaraz at the finals of this prestigious tournament. However, he came under the radar of criticism due to one of his controversial remarks at the scene. While the tennis fraternity thought that Medvedev’s anger was subjected to the audience at the gallery, the Russian tennis star cleared out the confusion.

Daniil Medvedev lost to Alcaraz the previous year as well at the finals of the Indian Wells tournament. This time it was his perfect moment to take the revenge. Now that things didn’t work out in his favor, fans believed that made Medvedev truly frustrated. Despite all, this ATP star delved deeper into his remark and explained its reason.

In a recent press conference after the finals of the BNP Paribas Open, Medvedev explained why he called tennis a “sh***y sport” after the tiebreak. In his response, Medvedev pointed out the old practices of the sport, which confused and frustrated him at the tie-break. Medvedev commented- “ I mean, in my opinion there are some things in tennis that are way too old. So I always said, for example, let’s say — now it’s no line umpires. Actually, okay, the ball was in, I know it, it’s a live system. I was, like, Just show it to me. You know, just show me the mark fast. We’re in 2024. Rockets go to space.”

Medvedev brings up an important argument as he narrates how he gets relatable content on social media because of his smartphone and showing the mark of a shot taken a few moments back is a challenge. He also focused on how the paint used to draw lines on the court didn’t match the court. It also caused inconsistent bounces impacting the match’s result.

Despite revealing these negative points, this Russian ATP star finally accepted that his comment represent his stupidity and frustration at the moment.

While this Russian ATP star seemed pretty frustrated while explaining the meaning of his remark, he also narrated his love and passion for tennis: “Yeah, for me, the biggest rule in tennis should be when we have challenge system — like what happened with Andrey, apparently the ball was in. But in my opinion, you can challenge, let’s say he hits a serve on the line, second serve, you play a long rally, you lose the rally.

Medvedev further commented- “In my opinion, you can challenge the serve itself because if, in some case, it was out and the referee didn’t see it, the point should have not been played. In my opinion, you can come back 10 shots and say, I challenge this, and if it’s in you lose the point.”

Finally, Medvedev concluded by saying- “In my opinion, you can challenge the serve itself because if, in some case, it was out and the referee didn’t see it, the point should have not been played. In my opinion, you can come back 10 shots and say, I challenge this, and if it’s in you lose the point.
Yeah, there are many small things about tennis, but I was definitely exaggerating. I love tennis. I’m going to continue playing it, but when you are not happy sometimes you say stupid things.”
