Things didn’t go according to John McEnroe’s plan at the 2024 Laver Cup! However, thorough planning is required before things kick-start at the next big event in his life. John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg have already revealed earlier that they would sign off as captains of Team World and Team Europe respectively, after this year’s Laver Cup. So, it’s more of a past thing now for them! McEnroe will next play the role of father of the bride at his daughter Anna’s marriage.
John McEnroe has three biological daughters, one stepdaughter, and two sons. He shares three children (Kevin, Emily, and Sean) with his ex-wife, Tatum O’Neal. McEnroe also has two daughters, Anna and Ava, with Patty Smyth. He is also a stepfather to Ruby, Smyth’s daughter from her previous marriage.
McEnroe has time and again credited his daughters for helping him realize the importance of equal opportunities for young girls in sports. “Thanks to my daughters in large part, I now realize how important it is for young girls to have the same opportunities as boys to take part in physical activity. I am proud to be a feminist,” he wrote in his autobiography ‘But Seriously.’

Bjorn Borg said, “I’m gonna miss John a lot. Of course, we’re gonna see each other… I remember when Roger called me and asked if I wanted to be captain for Team Europe. That was 8 years ago. I didn’t really know what to say. But I was happy to say yes. And he said John would be captain for Team World. John, we’ve been having a good time. Even if you guys lost.” John McEnroe reflected the same love for the Swedish during his speech. He said, “A special thanks to my great rival, I love you man. Bjorn Borg. Thank you for being on the other side.”
