Is Frances Tiafoe's bond with David Witt the secret sauce to his recent success on the court?

What happens when you finally find the missing piece of your puzzle? America’s rising star in tennis Frances Tiafoe had quite a moment like that when he met former American tennis player David Witt. Witt, who just ended his collaboration with Jessica Pegula, tried his luck with the famous Big Foe. Not to mention, it worked like a charm, and Tiafoe found his much-needed purpose. Fueling his pace with that purpose, Tiafoe again dissects what it’s like to work with the legendary coach.

Tiafoe just walked a step forward in the Cincinnati Open. He defeated Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina by 6-3, and 7(8), 6(6) yesterday at the Round of 64. Post-victory, Tennis Channel’s Prakash Amritraj interviewed him and asked Tiafoe about his tuning with his new coach David Witt. Tiafoe, who started working with this former coach of Serena and Venus Williams in July said, “He was open. Obviously, I was looking for a while, and our personalities kind of fit, you know. He’s super easygoing, you know, short kind of on information but gives quality information and doesn’t try to overcoach. So it’s been it’s been super easy right away.”

Tiafoe was all praise about Witt, who just ended his long-term successful collaboration with Jessica Pegula. He started with how “experienced” Witt is, using the example of the Williams sisters and said how “he did an incredible job with Venus and Serena living at their place at the time.” It felt as if Tiafoe liked Witt’s style of mentorship, “He’s super easygoing, you know, short kind of information but gives quality information and try to overcoach. So it’s been it’s been super easy right away. We’ve been getting along having a great time, we’re both a little weird in a way where we just say off the jokes and stuff like that.”
