It was the 1994 Wimbledon Championships. Ben Shelton’s father, Bryan, participated in the tournament and gave his best out there. He reached the fourth round of that edition, which became his best showing on the grass courts at Wimbledon. Fast forward to 2024, Ben Shelton has made his father proud by replicating his feat. After knowing about it, the American sensation gave a 4-word unfiltered reaction.
Earlier today, Shelton was involved in his third-round match against Denis Shapovalov. The encounter, which was suspended due to rain yesterday, saw a thrilling finish with Shelton coming out on top in the deciding set to enter the pre-quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. With this, he leveled his father’s best finish at the tournament 30 years back.
Bare emotions were on display as Bryan Shelton was also present in the stands. Ben Shelton made his father proud with his display and made a heartwarming comment about equaling his father’s wonderful feat. During the post-match interview, Shelton was asked about how proud he was after matching his father’s feat. Replying to this, Shelton just said, “We’re back big dog,” as the crowd went wild. Ben Shelton’s previous best at Wimbledon was a second-round appearance last year.

Meanwhile, this is not the only feat Shelton has replicated of his father. Earlier this year, he won the ATP Houston title and joined his father in a unique feat.
Like father, like son for Bryan and Ben Shelton
Back in 1992, Bryan Shelton won the title in Houston. It was his second ATP title and his son emulated his feat 32 years later after defeating Frances Tiafoe in the summit clash of the ATP Houston. In the process, the duo became one of the rare father-son pairs to have put their hands on the same trophy.
