Tennis might look like an individual sport from the outside, but it includes an army of people behind a single player. It includes coaches, managers, and physios amongst others. Former manager of Alexander Zverev, Patricio Apey, talked about the falling apart from each other.

The manager elaborated on the dispute that arose between them and how it could have been avoided.

The dispute between Patricio Apey and Alexander Zverev

The Chilean manager talked about the situation that arose between the two. Apey was overlooking Zverev’s affairs under him and his company, ACE Group International. The German player was with the company from the age of 15 till 2018. However, the player filed a lawsuit against the company and went on to join Team8, which also manages Roger Federer’s affairs.

Patricio Apey talked about the shift as he said, “He never had the time or the desire to talk about it.” He talked about the time Zverev became world No. 3 and landed seven contracts by the end of the year. He said, “Someone convinced him that the grass is greener on the other side.”

He further talked about the shift to Team8 and said, “If he had told me he wanted to go with Federer, I would have taken him to them, and told them he’s a nice guy, sensitive, and to watch out for the ego.”

Furthermore, he talked about the capabilities of Zverev. The Chilean manager said, “He is going to win many Grand Slams, but the time of being the prince before being the king may have slipped away.” However, he took a dig at the attitude of the German player. He said, “He’s like a typical champion tennis player who always knows more than the other guy.”

How is Zverev doing right now?

The German player had faced a severe ankle injury during the semi-finals against Rafael Nadal at the Roland Garros. Consequently, he had to leave the match because of that. Besides that, he has not yet confirmed his non-participation at the US Open 2022. He hopes to be a part of the last grand slam final of the year.

The player wanted to win his first grand slam title this year. However, he faced a setback after getting injured at the French Open. He had to sit out of Wimbledon too. The player had previously reached the finals of the US Open in 2020, where he was defeated by the reigning champion Dominic Thiem.
