We’ve seen many tennis players perform a signature celebration after a victory, and Novak Djokovic has a trademark routine as well!

Djokovic can be seen looking up to the sky and making some hand movements after a victory. It has been prevalent for quite a few years now, and if it still doesn’t ring a bell, here’s how he does it:

That was ATP Cup’s official Instagram handle posting a clip of ‘The Djoker’ performing his trademark celebration. The caption translates to ‘Here we go’ in English, and one can assume that the 17-time Grand Slam champion is raring to lead his country in the upcoming International tournament.

Djokovic is all fired up, yet relaxed ahead of his opening fixture against Canada’s Denis Shapovalov, and we’re yet to witness what the World No.1 will bring to the table in this new ATP season.

The reason why Djokovic performs his hand gesture after winning tennis matches

As mentioned above, Djokovic’s hand gestures have become quite common among tennis fans. We’ve seen him do it aplenty, but there is also a reason as to why he does it frequently.

While one may assume that he does it to fire up the fans, that’s not the case. The Serbian made his celebratory gesture in an empty stadium as well, in 2020. When asked the significance behind the celebration, Novak Djokovic said this:

“Look, I’m going to keep on doing it because I just – I don’t know. I think its part of the routine. It’s part of also me paying a tribute and a thanks to that match and to the court and to that occasion.

“I try to be conscious of, you know, the opportunity to play and win and everything,” Djokovic added. “You know, sometimes we take a lot of things for granted in life.

“And obviously I have been on the tour for so long. So you would think, well it’s one match, who cares?”
