At a charity event in Croatia, Marin Cilic linked up with Croatian soccer captain Luka Modric for a tennis match. Both players came into the event on the back of losses in their respective sports. While Modric’s team lost to Spain in the round of 16 stage at Euro 2020, Cilic bowed out of the Wimbledon Championships in the third-round.

Marin Cilic and Luka Modric playing tennis for charity in Croatia
Marin Cilic and his foundation, ‘Game Set Croatia,’ organized a charity event in their homeland in order to raise funds for the children in Petrinja, who were affected by an earthquake in 2020. The Croat tennis star organized a doubles tennis event, involving many celebrities, including Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic, and Mario Mandzukic.
Cilic and Modric emerged as the victors; they won 15-12 in the finals, in a game with a first-to 15 points basis winning criteria.
“I am terribly proud that we have reached the second edition. Everyone could enjoy the first edition, see athletes in a different sport than the one they were used to. Everyone was thrilled, that one big get-together resulted in raising a large sum of money. We athletes have a big heart when it comes to humanitarian actions,” said Cilic in an interview.

Marin Cilic has had a good record so far this year, if not the best. With a 19-12 record in all events, he has already won one title. The World No.38 beat Felix Auger Aliassime at the Stuttgart Open final to clinch the title.
Despite that, Marin has not had a decent run at the major events this year. He failed to shine at any of the Grand Slam events this year and suffered first-round, second-round and third-round defeats at three successive Grand Slams.
The Croat will be contesting at the Tokyo Olympic Games later this month and heading to New York for the US Open in August. He will be hopeful of a strong comeback after playing at the Olympic Games.
