Golly! Some bizarre and unreal scenes transpired at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Flushing Meadows, New York, hosting the US Open 2021. Although the stadium had a retractable roof, it apparently had a hole in it. And hence, the stormy rain of Hurricane Ida came gushing inside the stadium, interrupting the Diego Schwartzman and Kevin Anderson second-round clash at 5-5, 15-15*.
Undeniably, it is one of the rarest and unfortunate moments in tennis. While tennis fans felt relieved that not one, but two courts would exhibit tennis in the rain, all that excitement went down the drain.
In the video, the rain pouring in sideways seemed picturesque under the stadium lights. However, it also meant that the match might not see the light again today.

Notably, both Schwartzman and Anderson, who were enjoying the court surface of Louis Armstrong, would have to rebuild their game from scratch later or tomorrow.

Probably, the stadium management team will have a long night to see whether they can fix the problem. Besides, the Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Adrian Mannarino is still on schedule at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Diego Schwartzman vs Kevin Anderson: US Open 2021
Before the rains arrived, both players engaged in a toe-to-toe battle from the first swing of the match. Moreover, they both showed the hunger to reach the third round in the US Open 2021.
So far, both of them have had a decent 2021 season, winning one ATP title each. Therefore, it would be a big blow for them not to go deep in this tournament.
Notably, after a 30 odd minutes break, the Argentine and the South African returned to the court. However, it was not the same court they left when the rain came.
Hence, the South African professional, Kevin Anderson, expressed that he is “not happy with the court.” Besides, he managed to hold his serve, asking Schwartzman to serve and impose the tie-breaker.

Ultimately, the Argentine held his serve and took the opening set to the tie-breaker. Until now, there was no separating the two. But the situation did not seem good for either of them.
