The quarterfinal match between Daniil Medvedev and Pablo Carreno Busta ended in a dramatic style. It had all the elements, ranging from frustration to impersonation. However, the Russian World No.2 believes Busta closes his eyes and slaps the ball as he likes.

The battle went on for a little over 100 minutes, eventually witnessing Pablo as the winner. However, the Russian expressed his emotions as he felt them and smashed his racquet to smithereens.

Daniil Medvedev imitates Pablo Carreno Busta on court

The pantomime is a form of imitation originating from the UK, where people use it in theatres and drama. However, if there an Olympic event for it to happen, a certain Russian would emerge as the winner. Daniil Medvedev was flummoxed about the way Carreno hit the ball.

As a result of observations, Pablo Carreno Busta was closing his eyes and smashing the ball. He went for a winner in such fashion, Medvedev couldn’t control but imitate him. However, the Russian spoke highly of the Spaniard who recently won the Hamburg Open.

I was just surprised at his level, because today he could win Masters easily and yet he?s never been in any final of those. A Grand Slam is different, but with the level here today he can go in final of the Grand Slam. Easy,” said Daniil in his post match interview.

Pablo has to now face Karen Khachanov of Russia in the men’s singles semifinals on Friday. He will be following Rafael Nadal’s footsteps, who reached the 2016 Rio Olympics semifinals. Nadal also won the 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medal. However, Pablo’s competition, Khachanov has been in good form in Tokyo.

Medvedev will be focusing on making a return at a major event, the US Open in August. His dream of winning a Grand Slam can come true in August and he can justify his World No.2 ranking. However, the road will be tough moving ahead and he will have to work twice as hard as he has worked now.
