Team World is now an inch closer to retaining the Laver Cup title for the third time in a row! They are now already up by an 8-4 margin and perhaps two more match wins will bring the bright smile on the face of John McEnroe. Interestingly, a few hours ago, world number 7 and the US Open finalist Taylor Fritz defeated number 2, Alexander Zverev, in straight sets. Fritz beat Zverev by 6-4,7-5 and this was his third consecutive victory over the German! Team Europe is quite disappointed with the loss, but Team World? Well, they’re on cloud nine at the moment! Frances Tiafoe’s excitement forces Carlos Alcaraz to do some extra duties.

Carlos Alcaraz closely monitored Team Europe’s and Team World’s borderline between both benches. Not even someone like ‘Big Foe’ could breach that line! Every year Laver Cup provides us with some funny moments featuring the superstars of the game and this time it was Alcaraz and Tiafoe who stole the show with this hilarious moment.

“I felt like I was Roger Federer” – Frances Tiafoe’s over the moon after beating Daniil Medvedev

We witnessed a thrilling contest between Frances Tiafoe and Daniil Medvedev in the previous match at the Laver Cup. The American beat the Russian superstar by 3-6,6-4,10-5! Shortly after this emphatic victory, Tiafoe was caught up in all smiles. He said, “Honestly I just started having fun. Laughing with my team, laughing with my team over there and here. Just having a bit of fun and started really finding my rhythm.” Tiafoe has been in stellar form recently. He reached the SF of the Citi Open and then made it to the finals in Cincinnati before making his dream run in the US Open.

Over here, he explained, the courts are much slower in the Laver Cup, so it was a bit tough for him to play against someone like Daniil Medvedev on this surface. However, he’s happy to pull things back in his favor after losing the first set. “After the second set, midway into the second and in the tie-break, I felt like I was Roger Federer, honestly,” explained the ecstatic American.

Roger Federer, who was also inside the stadium, gave a thumb up to the on-court reporter, Mark Petechey when asked about Tiafoe’s comment. On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz came back strongly winning his singles match against Ben Shelton by 6-4,6-4. Previously, he lost his doubles match with Zverev against Ben Shelton and Taylor Fritz. After this comfortable victory, Alcaraz said, “I’m really happy for being part of Team Europe in the Laver Cup for the first time…I’m pretty happy because I played a really solid match since the beginning until [the end] of the match.

However, he admitted that, while playing as a team is fun, it can also give rise to some added pressure. He explained, “I feel a little bit more the pressure as I said, but at the same, I feel more energy having them supporting me behind in the tough moments during the match.” Roger Federer had earlier predicted Team Europe as the favorites in the seventh edition of the Laver Cup. However, the results are now a bit different. Do you think Team Europe can pull things back on track today?
