Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz‘s Wimbledon fourth-round marathon not only displayed competition but brilliant drama. However, while there was a little tension in the middle of the match, it had nothing to do with Fritz, but apparently, the German was not happy with the American player’s box and the talks there. Recently, the 26-year-old came forward to talk about the handshake, that caused a stir.

Zverev, obviously incensed at what he perceived to be insulting comments made by Fritz’s supporters, got into a heated altercation with Fritz close to the net during their match. Zverev conveyed his frustration at what he saw as an unwarranted criticism of him to his opponent, which heightened the tension.

After the match, when the American sat down with the Tennis Channel, he was asked about the handshake and the conversation that took place. He stated, “I guess my team members sharing for me when he was injured but he said, you know like you know nothing to do with you, you’re all good whatever. So I mean, yeah, whatever. It’s all good. Okay. It’s all good. But it’s not good. I wasn’t wishing. I wasn’t wishing him a flight home. So yeah.”

On the other hand, this time he didn’t want his opponent to leave and take a flight. Earlier before, Fritz sent his opponent a sharp message after beating Arthur Rinderknech in their Wimbledon second-round match: “have a nice flight home.” The remark was reminiscent of their heated clash at Roland Garros the previous time they played. After Fritz won that match, he calmed down a boisterous French audience, which resulted in him being jeered for a few minutes.

Thus, some things were said during the handshake that followed the game on Thursday. Fritz stated, “I just said, ‘have a nice flight home.'” However, at the same time, he revealed that saying these things is not his forte, and he is quite a chill person when it comes to him.

Taylor Fritz talks about his on-court personality

After the second-round victory, and then take-a-flight home comment, the 26-year-old tennis player opened up about his personality and talked about handling such situations. In addition, he also highlighted that these talks gave him “extra fire” and motivated him to defeat him.

He stated, “I’m a very chill person. I don’t do anything that could rub people the wrong way, so when someone kind of just goes out of their way to take a shot at me, then I’m not just going to take it. It gave me the extra fire to win.” Fritz is now prepared to face Lorenzo Musetti in the renowned competition’s quarterfinals, which should be a fun clash.
