Especially, during his match against the American tennis star, Taylor Fritz, the 22-time singles Grand Slam champion, suffered from a considerable amount of pain. However, the Spaniard somehow managed to clinch a victory before eventually pulling out of the tournament. Focusing on his resilience, his former coach, Toni Nadal, recently gave an assessment of his nephew’s Wimbledon heroics.

The Spanish tennis coach was recently featured in an exclusive interview with ‘Talking Tennis’, where he talked about his nephew’s return to the men’s circuit. Rafael Nadal, who picked up an iliopsoas injury at the start of the season, has already missed out on some crucial ATP events. Due to the same, the former French Open champion has fallen out of the 10 spots of men’s rankings after almost two decades.
Notably, Toni Nadal was asked about the Spaniard’s injury woes, especially from the previous season’s Wimbledon, where he was forced to withdraw. After an incredible display, the ‘King of Clay’ reached the quarter-final round of the tournament. During his match against Taylor Fritz, Nadal was in a lot of pain due to his abdominal injury.

As he was struggling on the court, he was asked by his father and sister to pull out of the match. However, the 36-year-old tennis legend continued and later ended up winning the match. Speaking about the same, Toni recently assessed his nephew’s Wimbledon heroics. He said, “The results after when you know what happened later isn’t easy to talk about but at the same time I have to say if he retired before maybe he has wandered a little less you never know.”

Nadal’s uncle added, “The real through in this match, he cannot play for the next match but I think Rafael was either he was playing really well in Wimbledon. He was close to the semi-final and then when you are there, the normal thing is to play because you know maybe you can make an effort then you have the possibility to win Wimbledon then it’s normal that he wants to play”.
