In one such incident, an inadvertent barging led to a player accidentally killing a bat during a tennis match. The chain of events seemed a bit blurry for the players to process. However, it turned out to be like this. Though tennis is deprived of such events, the match led to a bizarre turn of events.

A tennis player mistakenly kills a bat during a tennis match

The sequence of events was so spontaneous and quick that the players noticed the mishap only a little later. They noticed only when they saw the unfortunate creature fall with a thump on the opposite side of the court.

At an ATP Challenger Tour event, the Pune Challenger, 27-year-old Kaliyanda Poonacha, was taking part in the doubles quarter-final match. And this is where the freak accident happened. During his serve, the player accidentally hit a bat as he served. Serving at 5-1 down in the first set, the player was unaware of the flying mammal and went ahead with a full-fledged serve. Subsequently, this led to the bat becoming a victim of it.

The receiver hit the serve back before the bat landed at his feet. All four players were stunned, and the match was paused for a while. Meanwhile, a member of the court cleared the court before the match resumed.

One of the most absurd situations in the tennis realm has surfaced, but it was purely an accident. The 27-year-old player did not aim to do that.

Journalist Michał Pochopien tweeted a video of the incident and stated, “During the serve, Kaliyanda Poonacha hit a ball and … a bat, which unfortunately ended its life in this way.” Another journalist, Gaspar Ribeiro Lanca, also commented on this and stated, “The most absurd situation on the tennis court?”

The poor bat got hit by his racquet at the same the player hit the ball during the serve. This eventually lead him to drop dead on the other side of the court.
