Novak Djokovic has had a mixed 2022 season. While he has failed to repeat last year’s heroics that saw him come close to winning a Calendar Year Grand Slam, he has still managed to win the Wimbledon Championship and the Rome Masters this year. Although staying away from injuries, Djokovic has only participated in seven tournaments this season.

Owing to his vaccination status, he was forced to miss some big tournaments like the Australian Open and the US Open. Due to this, he has faced a major setback to his ATP ranking, slipping to the seventh spot. Recently, he practiced on the hard courts with a Spanish player.

Novak Djokovic masters a special drill

The 21-time Grand Slam champion took to Instagram to share a video of a special drill that he performed with Spanish player, Carlos Gomez-Herrera. Djokovic captioned the video, “Djoko Game.”

In the video, both the players can be seen hitting volleys, allowing the ball to bounce on their side of the court before getting it to the other side.

Djokovic won the exhilarating rally that lasted 12 shots after Carlos Gomez-Herrera hit the ball into the net.

After skipping the ongoing Davis Cup Final group stage, Djokovic will be making a comeback at the Laver Cup later this month. Additionally, he will also play Tel Aviv Watergen Open and Rolex Paris Masters.

Djokovic’s uncle lauds his nephew

During an interview, the 21-time Grand Slam champion’s uncle, Goran Djokovic praised his nephew, saying, “This year has not been easy for Novak, but he continues to push forward. I’m sure after all he’s been through, he’ll come out stronger.”

Further, he went on to add, “Novak knows who he is and knows what he wants. The ordeal he went through this year in Australia only extended his career.”

At the beginning of this year, Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic were tied at 20 Grand Slam titles apiece. However, Nadal won the Australian Open and the French Open to take a lead in this race. With the Wimbledon Championships victory, Djokovic trails Nadal by just a solitary major title.
