Today, the Russian tennis player, Daniil Medvedev, suffered a humiliating defeat at the Halle Open final at the hands of the Polish player Hubert Hurkacz. Before the match, Medvedev was undoubtedly the favorite, but Hurkacz shocked the Russian player to win his first Grass court title in his career.

Meanwhile, one interesting thing happened during the match. Surprisingly, Medvedev’s coach, Gilles Cervara, left the court while Medvedev was still playing.

It seems like all was not well between Medvedev and his coach, Gilles Cervara. The French Tennis court had seen enough of Medvedev’s horrendous performance, as he lost the match in just 1 hour and 3 minutes; the final score was 6-1,6-4, in favor of the Polish player.
Before the match even ended, the French coach left in a hurry. During the match, we saw Medvedev signaling to his box quite a few times with visible frustration. Maybe that’s why he deiced to leave the match mid-way. You can watch the video below.

Meanwhile, Medvedev’s wife, Daria Medvedeva, was the only person sitting in his box after the match. It is worth noting that the Russian doesn’t often travel with a long squad, as he prefers very few people.
At the end of the match, the world no.1 mentioned only his wife’s name, as he thanked her for sticking with him. He said, “Dasha, thanks a lot for this week. Not easy to be with me on the court sometimes, but hopefully next time will be easier and much better.”

Medvedev will play the Mallorca Open
Recently, the Russian tennis player returned to the no.1 in the ATP rankings again, after achieving this feat earlier this year. However, he has not been the same player since losing the Australian Open final this year to Rafael Nadal.
Even though he reached two grass-court finals, he did not enjoy both of those finals. Earlier at the Rosmalen Grass Court Championships, the Russian player lost the final match against the Dutch player Tim van Rijthoven.

Now, he lost another final against Hurkacz. After this final, Medvedev will play the Mallorca Open. However, the Russian player will not get a chance to play in the Wimbledon championships due to the decision taken by the authorities at Wimbledon. So, the Mallorca Open will be his last tournament which will eventually end his grass-court campaign this season.
