As the Wimbledon Championships came to a conclusion, many players have already started playing other tournaments to grab some ranking points before the US Open, as Wimbledon offered none. Currently, many top players are playing at the Hamburg European Open in Germany, including Carlos Alcaraz, Andrey Rublev, and others. During the opening round match today, we saw one unusual incident involving Italian player Fabio Fognini and Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia.

During the round of 32-match, both players got into a tussle. The chair umpire, Aurelie Tourte, had to intervene and separate them from preventing an ugly fight.

Fabio Fognini and Aljaz Bedene had an ugly incident at the Hamburg European Open

After the match between Fognini and Bedene, both players took part in the customary handshake at the net. However, the Slovenian player did not look too happy with the Italian player as he said, Every time we play, you do something like this.

As their fight became a little physical, the French chair umpire, Aurelie Tourte, who recently officiated in the Ladies Wimbledon final, had to intervene. You can watch the video below.

Apparently, Bedene was upset about a particular line call. As seen in the video, Fognini was explaining about the call to the Slovenian player. In the end, they did not stop their argument as Bedene packed his bags and left the court.

Notably, Fognini had plenty of outbursts in the past. His most famous incident came at the 2017 US Open, where he received a default for using obscene language aiming at the chair umpire. As a result, the Italian received a huge fine and received a suspension from the doubles tournament as well.

Other top players playing at the Hamburg Open

Coming to ATP Hamburg Open, the no.1 seed at this tournament, Carlos Alcaraz, had a tough first-round match against Germany’s Nicola Kuhn. After surviving the challenge of the German in three sets, he will either play Filip Krajinovic of Serbia.
