Every tennis enthusiast is aware of Rafael Nadal and his obsession with the routine he follows with his bottles. Many have termed this a superstition. However, Nadal himself has denied that claim. In the 2015 Australian Open, when the wind blew over one of Nadal’s bottles, a ball boy ran over and aligned it in the right direction.

This brought a burst of huge laughter from the audience, followed by a cheeky smile from the Spaniard. Later on, in the post-match speech, Nadal talked about the incident and why he likes his bottles placed in a certain way.

Everyone who is a fan of Rafael Nadal, knows that he has a very strict routine with his bottles. Whenever he comes on to the court, the Spaniard takes one sip each from two of his bottles. Following that, he places them in a certain direction and position. And this is something Nadal has followed religiously throughout his entire career.

However, during the 2015 Australian Open, one of his bottles fell down and a ball boy ran over to restore them to their original position.

Later on, in the post-match interview, the Spaniard talked about the moment. The interviewer incorrectly mentioned that he had asked the boy to align them. Nadal laughed and corrected him by saying, “No, I didn’t ask.” He added, “Well, seriously, it’s not bothering me.”

Furthermore, he explained it without giving much importance. He said, “It’s just kind of very stupid things that you do after a lot of years competing.”

Is what Rafael Nadal does on the court superstitious? 

The world no. 2 player talked about his habit in his book, ‘Rafa: My Story’. Many have claimed that he does it out of superstition, which has helped him in his matches. However, Rafa refuted such claims and stated that this is something that he has done for a long time as a part of his routine.

Because if that were the case, he should not have done it for the matches where he lost. He stated the reason, “It’s a way of placing myself in a match, ordering my surroundings to match the order I seek in my head.”
