Recently, the 21-year-old Swiss talent, Dominic Stricker got emotional recalling the moment of retirement of the Swiss legend, Roger Federer.

Dominic Stricker is currently in Jeddah competing in the Next Gen ATP Finals. After a disappointing start to the campaign, the Swiss managed to clinch a victory against the 20-year-old Italian, Luca Nardi. Stricker defeated Nardi comfortably with a margin of 4-1,4-1,4-2 at King Abdullah Sports City, Saudi Arabia.

The 21-year-old is competing at the Next Gen ATP Finals for the second time in a row. Recently he gave an interview on the official website of the ATP Tour, where the young lad was seen recalling the moments of watching Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka while he grew up. Federer has already retired and Wawrinka is now 38, and there is a huge void to fill after them. Can Stricker rise to the occasion and follow in their footsteps? Here’s what he said.

I think Roger’s retirement was very emotional for of us, especially maybe for us Swiss players,” said Dominic Stricker. He added, “It’s not going to be easy when Stan retires as well, but it’s also great for me that then the whole of Switzerland will be looking out for the next Roger and Stan. It’s just good to have them in your country and to know that the country really follows tennis a lot.

Roger Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles in his career and Stan Wawrinka has 3. To follow in their footsteps will always be a tough ask. But Dominic Stricker has enormous potential to achieve it and he is currently the number 2 Swiss player. Before retirement, Federer invited the youngster twice to practice with him in Dubai. Now, as the Swiss Maestro is retired, Stan Wawrinka has now taken up the role of guiding the Swiss youngsters on the ATP Tour.
