Taylor Fritz is looking to bring glory to his home nation. The American star is standing on business at the US Open, wherein his dedication has started paying head-turning results. But that’s not all. As a matter of fact, he hasn’t taken his foot off the gas the entire season, something that has helped him get on par with one of the sport’s greatest, and display the burning embers of competition!

The No. 12 seed arrived in New York on the back of a thumping second-round (his first match) loss at the Cincinnati Masters. Moreover, his Montreal run wasn’t a success either. In hopes of shrugging off the back-to-back early exits at the warm-up events, Fritz made a commanding statement at Flushing Meadows.

The 26-year-old has reached the Slam’s fourth round, having downed Argentine Francisco Comesana to secure the spot. This, in turn, makes him the first American man to reach R4 of all Major events in a year since Andre Agassi in 2003.

For those unaware, the year 2003 holds a special place in American tennis history. Notably, Agassi won the eighth Major crown of his career at the Australian Open, his fourth title in Melbourne. Meanwhile, the season also saw compatriot Andy Roddick lift his sole Grand Slam singles title at the US Open.

At the Grand Slam stage, Fritz has enjoyed consistent success this year. Having reached the quarter-finals at the Australian Open and Wimbledon and the fourth round of the French Open. And now, the Californian native is aiming to conclude the GS drought for American men’s tennis. Fritz achieved a similar feat when he claimed the number 5 spot in February 2023. He became the first American man, since Roddick in 2009, to rise to the top 5 of the ATP.

While his countrymen often dig deep at the home event, Fritz’s year-long consistency speaks volumes about his top form and zealousness to finesse the sport worldwide, something that was voiced by the 26-year-old himself.

‘Confident’ Taylor Fritz on Grand Slam appearances – “Results have been pretty solid“

Obviously, this isn’t Taylor Fritz’s first rodeo at the US Open. The American talent entered the hardcourt event to defend quarter-final points from his last year’s run. However, his results at every other Grand Slam were underwhelming. Seeing a notable change in his performance this season, the No. 12 seed reserved a few words to address his newfound form at a pre-tournament presser in New York.

“Really excited to be here. It’s, like, the biggest week for the U.S. players. Yeah, it was my first slam, quarter-final here. The slam results were just really poor last year. So I felt like I needed a good result. This year, the slam results have been pretty solid. I’m feeling good, pretty confident about just playing in the big tournaments right now,” he spoke.

In the fourth round, the American is slated to lock horns with either Casper Ruud or Juncheng Shang on Sunday, September 1.
