Fiery scenes at the US Open! The American player, Maxime Cressy was taking on UK’s Jan Choinski in the qualifiers. The British tennis star started the match on a positive note, he won the first set, but the American came back in the second. However, the Choinski managed to pull things back on track in the third and won the match by 6-0, 6(5)-7, 7-6(10). Shortly, after losing the match, Cressy was seen a bit frustrated, and fiery scenes emerged at the venue. Fans were quite surprised with his post-match reaction!

Cressy started throwing stuff from his tennis bag after losing the qualifiers match. He had multiple match points against Choinski but failed to make them count and perhaps this is what led to such fury. The tennis world has perhaps never seen this before on the court. Truly bizarre!

Cressy has a very interesting game. He serves and volleys on just about every point and he tries to chip and attack when returning, to get to the net. He has been criticized at times for his playing style as well. The thing that mainly defines him is his vocal fighting spirit and yelling, “Cmon” after hitting big points. His grunts and angry outbursts during the matches are clear examples of sheer aggression on the court.

This fiery manner and wearing the cap backward, at times reminds the fans of Lleyton Hewitt. H was also someone who didn’t care much about what anyone thought or said about his style on the court.

Cressy brings in a similar fearless and ‘in-your-face’ approach in his game! However, there were times when he was heavily criticized for his playing style. For example, during the 2022 Australian Open, Daniil Medvedev wasn’t too pleased with the American’s ‘mind games’. He was even heard yelling, “This is so boring.”

Although Medvedev won the match in a hard-fought four-setter, that time Cressy perhaps successfully managed to pass on the frustration to his opponent, instead of venting it out himself. In 2019, Daniil Medvedev was seen raging out in anger after a crucial call went against him in the opening set of the third-round clash at the US Open. He was seen snatching a towel from the ball boy and then throwing it out deliberately on the ground. As a result, the Russian tennis star was handed a code violation for the incident with the ball boy. Medvedev was also spotted lashing out at the umpires and pointing his fingers angrily at the umpire while arguing with him. The crowd also went mad at him when they saw a bizarre gesture from Medvedev with his rude finger up to face.

Fans claimed that moment to be absolutely disgusting, and perhaps Maxime Cressy will also face the wrath of the fans with his recent actions. We have also seen Serena Williams and Nick Kyrgios vent their anger on the courts during the US Open. Remember the moment from the 2018 US Open, when the chair umpire claimed that Williams had received coaching from the player’s box during the match? She was subsequently also handed a code violation. 

Williams was later on seen engaging in a heated exchange with the umpire, Carlos Ramos. She yelled, “I have never cheated” and then again during the same match she was handed a second violation for slamming a broken racquet to the ground in frustration. After repeatedly demanding an apology from the umpire she was handed a third violation of what Ramos called, “verbal abuse.” That was also a pretty bizarre incident.

Then in the 2022 US Open, we saw Kyrgios angrily smashing two of his racquets after he was knocked out of the tournament. Even this incident has sparked a few controversies among the fans.
