Tennis and Hollywood collide once again! Last year, actor Matthew McConaughey celebrated Novak Djokovic‘s 24th Grand Slam title with a heartwarming embrace at the US Open. This year, the spotlight is on Ben Stiller, a well-known fan of Rafael Nadal! The rising star Diego Schwartzman has caught Stiller’s attention as well!
Schwartzman’s path to prosperity in tennis did not have the magical moments we expected. Since the French Open in May, the Argentine player failed to qualify for the main rounds in his following tournaments. Seems pretty grim for a player who once ruled the No. 8 rank in the sport. However, Schwartzman is determined to make a deep run at the US Open! The 32-year-old secured his spot in the final qualifying round by defeating Thiago Agustin Tiranto in the second round (5-7, 4-6). The good news is, he is not celebrating alone!
Tennis enthusiast Ben Stiller reshared a video (originally posted by official US Open account) of Diego Schwartzman’s final moments in the second qualifying round match on X. Expressing his excitement and support for the player, he captioned the post with a series of enthusiastic and celebrations emojis, “🙌🙌🙌.” The actor’s public display of support is a testament to Schwartzman’s growing fan base and his potential to make a deep run in the tournament.

Interestingly, the now world No. 246 has never missed a US Open event since he competed in the main draw for the first time in 2014. His best results include reaching the quarter-finals in both 2017 and 2019. Sadly, he was beaten by Arthur Rinderknech in the New York first round last year. Schwartzman’s impressive streak of 36 consecutive Grand Slam main-draw appearances was broken last year when he missed the Australian Open.
However, the Argentine player, known for his high-quality return game, has vowed to improve his performance this season, marking an end to his “great career.” “I think I did very well today. It was a good match. It is my last Grand Slam. One more time trying to enjoy–but this time, it is different. Every time I miss, I want to do better. This is my second time playing qualies.” said ‘El Peque.’
Next up, Schwartzman, who is bidding adieu to tennis in 2025, will be facing Vilius Gaubas for a chance to qualify for the main draw. If Schwartzman were to qualify, it will be his first Grand Slam main draw appearance since the US Open last year and his 11th in a row at Flushing Meadows. Meanwhile, with Nadal, Stiller shows his kind gestures towards the 22 grand slam champion, too!

Ben Stiller’s constant support for Rafael Nadal throughout his difficult times on-court!
A few months ago we saw Ben Stiller support Nadal during the French Open. Although the King of Clay’s Roland Garros tournament did not prove to be fruitful (as he lost in the first round), Stiller’s post suggested his deep connection with the former World No. 1 player. “Still rooting for Rafa Nadal always,” he wrote on X.
Even during Nadal’s farewell celebration in Rome where thousands of his fans gathered to show their respect to the former World No. 1 player, Stiller paid a special tribute to him through another his X post. Nadal waved to his fans from a bridge outside the court after his match, and Stiller shared a video with the caption ‘🙌’.

During Nadal’s tough moments during the Brisbane International event where he withdrew due to his knee injury, Stiller lend his support to the 22 Grand Slam champion. “Wishing Rafa all the best and a good and speedy recovery,” Stiller wrote on his X.
Now, coming to back to Schwartzman. The four ATP singles titlist announced in May 2024 that he will leave tennis after the Argentina Open in February next year. But till then he wants to savor every moment on-court. As Schwartzman battles for a spot in the US Open main draw, he can count on Ben Stiller’s support from the sidelines.
