Nick Kyrgios is currently having a wonderful season. The 27-year-old has advanced to the third round of the US Open after a successful opening round. Previously, he reached the quarterfinals of the National Bank Open.

Woodbridge upset with Nick Kyrgios’ rant over the supporter’s box

An Australian tennis veteran, Todd Woodbridge, pleaded with members of Nick Kyrgios’ support crew to “step away” if his abuse escalates after his “routine implosion” and box abuse during Thursday’s US Open victory. Over his broadcast on Channel 9, Woodbridge said, “At some point the people who are sitting in his players box need to take some action.”

Further, he added, “Why does he (Kyrgios) want his player’s box to tell him what to do when he’s coach-less? I mean, goodness me. The amount of energy he expends unnecessarily, it wears him out. He is so much better when he doesn’t do that … he’s angry with himself.”

During his second-round US Open triumph, Nick Kyrgios screams his frustrations. As he pleaded with his support team to shout louder and express their solidarity, he swore at them multiple times, tossing his head and making chaotic motions.

The animated Australian complained about marijuana smoke coming from the spectators, received a code violation for insulting his own fans, and received a warning about spitting on the court because it was “disgusting.” Despite all of this, the player still managed to play some breathtaking tennis at times.

Kyrgios reaches the third round 

With an end-moment victory over Benjamin Bonzi on Wednesday, the Australian Nick Kyrgios advanced to the third round of the U.S. Open.

In the two players’ first career meeting, the duo traded breaks in the opening set before Kyrgios won it in a tie-break. He then broke to start the second set and sailed to a 2-0 lead. In response, Bonzi won the third set. In the fourth, Bonzi led by a break before Kyrgios improved, breaking his service four times to set up a third-round match with American JJ Wolf, who earlier in the day defeated Alejandro Tabilo 4-6 7-5 6-4 6-3.

Nick will next face JJ Wolf for the third round in the US Open. This will be the fifth time Nick has reached the third round of the US Open.
