The Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer hung his racket after cementing his position as one of the greatest athletes, not just in the tennis community but in the entire sporting realm. However, his decision to move away from the tennis court has left a slew of fans upset. The recent news of the 20-time singles Grand Slam champion declining an invitation to attend the upcoming Australian Open has further disappointed the fans.

Tennis Australia reportedly tried to persuade Federer to attend the Grand Slam event in Melbourne. However, the former world No. 1 tennis player has reportedly declined their invitation.

The Swiss tennis legend has upset his legion of adoring fans in Australia after his decision not to attend the season’s first Grand Slam event. Roger Federer, who previously announced his retirement from the sport, has now prioritized spending time at home. As a result, the 20-time singles Grand Slam champion has declined an invitation to attend the Australian Open.

Federer was previously invited by Tennis Australia when he was playing his farewell tournament. Notably, the authorities tried to gauge his interest in returning to the Grand Slam event in Melbourne. One of their officials stated to the Herald and The Age, “The welcome mat will always be rolled out for Roger”.

The tennis star’s priority of spending quality time with his family made it clear that he would not be traveling in order to participate in events. But, this hasn’t ruled out Tennis Australia’s attempts of persuading Federer to make a return for the upcoming events. They are reportedly planning to bring him next season as it will mark 20 years of a special occasion. Notably, the former world No. 1 tennis player won his first Australian Open title in 2004 at the Rod Laver Arena. The officials have planned a grand event to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of his fist triumph at their Grand Slam event.

Federer has made his mark at the Australian Open

The Swiss Maestro has outclassed some of the best players in order to clinch 20 Grand Slam titles. Six of them have been achieved by Federer at the Grand Slam event in Melbourne. His first triumph at the Australian Open came against the Russian tennis player, Marat Safin.

In 2004, Federer, with his sheer brilliance and class, defeated Safin in order to clinch his first Grand Slam title in Melbourne. After that Federer went on to win 5 more titles Down Under.
