Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has been a controversial figure for the last few weeks. He had to pay some massive fines in both Indian Wells and Miami due to his unsportsmanlike behavior. In Indian Wells, he had a dispute with both the crowd and the chair umpire. And same happened in Miami as well, where he showed his immense displeasure towards the chair umpire.
Recently, the Canadian tennis player Steven Diez suffered a big loss at the ATP Houston due to an umpiring error, as Nick Kyrgios took a dig on social media.

Nick Kyrgios criticizes the chair umpire after a glaring mistake
Recently, at the ATP Houston, 31-year-old Canadian tennis player Steven Diez lost to Gijs Brouwer in the qualifier. In the second set, the chair umpire called the game in favor of Diez. However, he then suddenly changed his mind, which irked the Canadian tennis player. Immediately, the player asked for the supervisor, as he thought he won the match fairly.
Despite all that, the chair umpire didn’t move from his decision. As a result, the Canadian tennis player lost the match. Later, he posted on his Instagram, explaining the whole incident. “First of all before you read this I want to be clear that I don’t have anything against the chair umpire, I think and really hope he tried his best in my match today,” Diez wrote on Instagram.

“In the video as you can see I won the match with a passing shot that my opponent clearly tries to reach and even turns his head to see the ball pass him. After celebrating and about to shake hands with my opponent, the chair umpire decides to check the mark when clearly the match was over and it’s way to late to mark the ball. That was his huge first mistake. Second mistake is that he marks a ball that is literally 1 meter away from the real mark,” he explained the mistakes made by the chair umpire.
“Third mistake, he asks the lines man if he has the mark??? The lines man clearly points at the mark and even with that he stays with his incorrect mark. 4th mistake, he tells me that my opponent didn’t serve and volley and that he had no intention on playing the point. Basically he stopped the point right after the serve he told me and the supervisor. I could probably mention a few more mistakes. 5th mistake, and most important one. THE CHAIR UMPIRE SAYS GAME SET AND MATCH,” he further wrote about the mistakes.

Notably, Diez later got an entry in the main draw as a lucky loser. Speaking about that, he said, “Today in the greatest injustice that has happened to me in my life, justice has been done. Call it justice, God or Karma, but luckily I got i as a lucky loser and I’ll be playing again on Tuesday. Today I got in as a lucky loser, but I think as a tennis player this happens to often.”
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios, who had his own problems with a few chair umpires, shared Diez’s post on his Instagram stories and wrote, “Umpires doing a good job everywhere.”
Kyrgios received a hefty fine after Miami outburst
Earlier, the Australian tennis star received a $25,000 fine from ATP for his racket smashing incident after the quarter-final match against Rafael Nadal at Indian Wells. Then, Kyrgios got into a war of words with the chair umpire in the round of 16 match at the Miami Open. He also smashed his racket to the ground on multiple occasions. After combining all the incidents, he received a total of $35,000 fine from the ATP.
