Several fans raged their anger and emotions drawing the comparison of this scenario to Djokovic’s disqualification three years back. Angry fans of the world number one fume over the horrendous act of the Russian after accidentally hitting the ball into one of the spectators in the crowd. During one of the service games of Arthur Fils, Daniil Medvedev failed to return a ball and it got bounced off the guard wall. Medvedev then hit the ball which was out of play onto the face of the spectator. He immediately apologized to her. But Djokovic’s fans expected much more out of that, especially after seeing their idol treated differently during US Open 2020. Here’s what they say.

One fan said it was a clear default. He pointed out that Nole was disqualified for a similar incident of a smaller magnitude in the US Open in the past.

The other one acknowledged and said it was a nail on default. No more discussions.

Some of them weren’t happy with the double standards in the US Open.

While others went a little further and called for the sacking of the umpire.

Novak Djokovic’s exit from the US Open was the biggest headline during the US Open that year. The current world number one was trailing(5-6) Pablo Carreno of Spain when that unexpected exit happened. In that Round of 16 match, Djokovic tried to hit a stray ball out of rage into the empty stands. But accidentally it hit a line judge on the throat. The match was immediately called off after a discussion with the tournament referee, player, and the chair umpire. They declared Carreno as the winner and Djokovic had to lose the prize money as well as the ranking points he had earned during that tournament.
