The Big 3- Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have dominated tennis for the last 20 years. The debates about their greatness are not just limited to statistics. Their impact and playing style comes into play as well. Adding to that, some people argue about crowd support as well. Now, Djokovic, being the youngest of the lot, faces a major disadvantage here.
It’s quite natural that crowd support is usually in favor of the older guys. However, even in the absence of Federer and Nadal, Djokovic is often jeered by the crowds. Recently, his coach Goran Ivanisevic and former Wimbledon champion addressed the issue.

Novak Djokovic’s coach commands more support for the Serb
Ivanisevic recently spoke as an ambassador for the Sergio Tacchini store at Selfridges. Unsurprisingly, he was asked if he feels that Djokovic gets enough respect after the Serb’s first-round victory at Wimbledon. He said via Express, “Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t. People, they feel like they can relate with Rafa and Roger because they came first.”

Ivanisevic further added. “But he does get great support. He is one of the best athletes, and I’m not just talking about tennis, but one of the best athletes in the world. He’s still going and what he did for tennis and for sport is amazing. I think people appreciate it, but I think they will appreciate more when he stops playing tennis.”
The Croatian feels that when Djokovic quits tennis, he will leave a hole that might not be replaced. That will make the fans appreciate his greatness. In fact, the 2001 Wimbledon champion has held this opinion for quite some time now as he famously snubbed Roger Federer once.
When Goran Ivanisevic snubbed Roger Federer
Days after Novak Djokovic won his 20th grand slam title to equal Roger Federer’s tally, Ivanisevic showed little respect to the Swiss Maestro. He said via Tennis.com “I think men?s game is in a good stage. You have Federer, who is slowly out. I don?t think he can be No. 1 ever again. So it’s between Novak and Rafa for the records and all the stuff.”
Ivanisevic wanted to indicate that the younger players would always end up with the record. However, the usage of certain terms like ‘slowly out’ wasn’t appreciated by the fans of the Swiss Maestro. Do you think he was being disrespectful?
