The debate on Novak Djokovic’s recent comments on Ben Shelton lacking ‘respect’ on and off the court at the US Open seems to have ended. Shelton, who considered Djokovic’s action as a negative move against a co-player, kept his cool and decided to focus on the Australian Open.

“I don’t really have anything else to say on the whole US Open situation. I feel like I’ve been asked about it constantly in the last four or five months. I feel like I’ve said my peace on the matter. I would rather just let it settle & move forward,” Shelton said, putting an end to the controversy.

As the young tennis star showed an admirable sportsman spirit of not being involved in past matters, fans appreciated him for the move. One fan, appreciating the young American’s move and slamming Djokovic at the same time, wrote, 20 year old has more maturity than the 36 year old antivaxxer with kids!”

“Good response! Nole can learn a thing or two,” said another fan, urging the Serb to learn from a rising star.

Another fan, indirectly insulting Novak Djokovic over his new response, wrote, “This is the difference between class and trash. We all know who’s trash.”

“Sorry but it’s impossible not to stand with Ben, great maturity in his very composed words,” another fan said, as he couldn’t deny Ben Shelton’s win over Djokovic in the controversy.

One praised him for taking the “high ground.”

One called out the supposed “GOAT”.

Now that the debate seems to have met an end, Shelton is likely to be treated with an eye of added respect because of his recent move. However, it still remains to be seen if both of the players meet at the Australian courts again.

In a recent interview, Bryan mentioned that a grand slam is “something [Ben] is shooting for.” However, he showed no signs of being overconfident in the claim as he added, “He is not one to say, ‘I’m going to win this year’s Australian Open,’ but those are certainly things we’ve talked about. … We don’t take anything off the table right now, you know?” As the tennis star moves up on the table, it still remains to be seen if he will keep up with the expectations of the American fans.
