Kazakh tennis player Alexander Bublik has once again grabbed headlines for his infamous racquet-breaking antics on the court. During his match against Ben Shelton on Day 1 of UTS Los Angeles, Bublik couldn’t contain his frustration after attempting a daring tweener that didn’t go as planned. He smashed his racquet on the court for which he is infamously known for, but what surprised everyone was his next move, including a lucky fan.
Clearly, this isn’t the first time the Kazakh has been frustrated enough to smash his racquet on court. Back in February 2023, Bublik smashed not one but three of his racquets on court at Montpellier, France after performing poorly during a first-round match against unseeded Gregoire Barrere.

Bublik’s racquet-smashing tantrums are no secret to the tennis world, and his latest outburst is sure to stir conversations about managing emotions in the heat of the game. However, this time, there was an unexpected twist as the broken racquet found its way into the crowd. After smashing his racquet, Bublik threw the said racquet into the crowd leading to a moment of elation for one enthusiastic fan who caught Bublik’s racquet which was broken beyond repair.
The match between Ben “The Mountain” Shelton and Alexander “The Bublik Enemy” Bublik was nothing short of intense. Shelton’s shot-making skills had the LA crowd in awe as he managed to secure a 3-1 victory over the volatile Bublik.
Between quarters, the two players engaged in some fiery trash talk as well, with Bublik suggesting that the crowd wasn’t cheering for Shelton. In response, The Mountain confidently stated, “Oh, I couldn’t hear him, over the crowd cheering for me.”

One must think that in a fit of frustration, a player can lose their temper and break a racquet. But Bublik’s on-court rage might not be that of a regular player. In the heat of competition, the Kazakhstani has made waves in the past with his notorious racquet-smashing antics.
The question remains, what are the other times Alexander Bublik smashed his racquet?
Alexander Bublik’s history of racquet abuse
While this incident adds to Bublik’s fiery reputation, it is not the first time he has let his frustrations get the better of him on the court. A previous match at the Open Sud de France saw a similar spectacle when his title defense took a hit due to his spectacular loss of composure against Gregoire Barrere.
The match had been a rollercoaster for Bublik, who initially struggled but managed to bring it to a deciding third set. However, as the pressure mounted, so did his frustration. The Kazakh player found himself trailing 6-0 in the tiebreak, and that’s when things took a turn for the chaotic. Bublik unleashed a series of racquet-smashing fury, breaking not one but three racquets in the process. The crowd watched in disbelief as the then world number 50 displayed an outburst that, unsurprisingly, warranted a warning for racquet abuse.
