Christopher Eubanks has had a dream fortnight so far. He won his first ATP title in Mallorca and backed it up with a quarter-final run at Wimbledon. The American has grabbed the headlines with his feel-good story and he looks to create more history at SW19. Naturally, the nerves would kick in the biggest match of his career so far and he was off to a shaky start in the quarter-final. However, he could have risked disqualification if not for the metal framework in the umpire’s chair.

But what exactly did Eubanks do that could have ruined his dream run?

During the early stages of the match against Daniil Medvedev, Eubanks survived a massive scare. He hit a wayward forehand, which could have hit the umpire with plenty of force. But the shot hit the metal framework on the umpire’s chair. The umpire was a bit nervous and laughed it off. Eubanks apologized right away. It was unintentional, and the crowd joined in with laughter.

The match progressed and Daniil Medvedev took the first set 6-4. However, Eubanks arguably played the best set of his life after that. In just 28 minutes, he registered a 6-1 second set victory over the world number 3. His level was off the charts and the crowd seemed to get behind him. Medvedev was now the rattled player, and he started his own feud with the umpire.

Medvedev ended up losing the third set and is on the brink of a quarter-final exit. The crowd was not pleased with a particular gesture from the Russian.

Apparently, the camerawoman was also crying after Medvedev’s ball hit her. The Russian needs to calm himself down for the rest of the match, else Eubanks will be running away with the tie.
