It was the year 2002. Swiss maestro, Roger Federer, was making his debut at the ATP Finals, which was called the Masters Cup back then. In his maiden appearance at the tournament, the 20-time Grand Slam champion reached the semifinals before losing against Lleyton Hewitt, the eventual champion. Nonetheless, it was the beginning of something special as Federer went on to win 6 titles since then. Recently, he reflected on his journey of playing in Shanghai, which was the venue of the Masters Cup.

Federer visited the city during the Shanghai Masters this year. Touring the city in a non-playing capacity, many old memories came to Federer’s notice.

Earlier this week, the former World Number 1 was involved in an interview with CCTV+ where he reminisced about his Shanghai visit this year. Further, he also reflected on how times changed from his playing days at the Masters Cup in the same city.

Talking about this, Federer said, “This is a great memory, a great moment for me in my career because it was the first time I qualified to be part of the best eight in the world. Like you said, Shanghai grew so much in the years since 2002, I remember walking around in the streets seeing the modern Shanghai grow with the new buildings.”

Further, he went on to add, “But now if you look on the Bund and you look over to Pudong and you see the skyline, it’s incredible how different it looks and how much bigger it is. Maybe even more people are here in this incredible city. So for me, I’ve seen obviously a big change within the city.”

Federer made a starry appearance at the Shanghai Masters earlier this year. He oozed James Bond vibes as he delighted local fans with his much-anticipated appearance.

During his appearance on the courts of the Shanghai Masters, the Swiss maestro was spotted with $63 Million flex as he gave James Bond vibes in front of the local fans. He donned a pair of Oliver Peoples sunglasses, a multi-million dollar accessory brand that perfectly blended his stylish look.

Further, Federer also sported his Rolex watch on a crisp blue shirt which gave Federer a dapper look. The choice of Oliver Peoples sunglasses not only added a touch of luxury but also highlighted his partnership with the high-end eyewear brand.

Federer’s vibe was enough to delight the local fans, who turned out in large numbers to greet the tennis legend. Federer continues to win hearts despite being away from the action, doesn’t he?
