Setting the gold standard for love and partnership both on and off the court, their love story and its evolution over time have captured the attention of the entire tennis community. Trevor Noah has emerged as another admirer of this extraordinary duo, who is in awe of their “synergy” in everything they do.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion recently made an appearance on the podcast “What Now? With Trevor Noah” to talk about his retirement intentions. Noah, at one point, asked Federer, “When we think about teammates, relationships, partnerships, I think, arguably, the greatest doubles partnership of all time is you and Mirka.”

“I watched the two of you. I’ve seen you at the Met Gala. Yeah, like a little vacation together to, you know, chilling in Switzerland to whatever it is. The two of you have the most beautiful synchronicity between you as human beings,” Noah claimed. The former world number one has frequently acknowledged Mirka thrpughout his brilliant career for her constant support, which has been crucial to his longevity in tennis. In a touching video that was posted on social media during his announcement retirement, Roger Federer thanked his wife for her many years of support, “She has warmed me up before finals, watched countless matches even while over 8-months pregnant and has endured my goofy side on the road with my team for over 20 years.”

Interestingly, Federer also tells Trevor Noah about how he inspired Mirka to retire when her injuries caused her too much pain. “The idea of playing tennis with pain all the time” was far from an ideal athlete’s life and Federer could see a silver lining – the couple could be on the tour together. And Mirka agreed to hang up her racquet. But when it was her now-husband’s turn?

Federer hilariously recounted on the podcast, “And then here we are, ‘oh I don’t know if I should retire. I’m 36, 37, 38, you know it’s so hard to retire.’ And I’m just thinking of her.” At the Laver cup, Federer emotionally talked about how Mirka had not forced him to retire earlier, when she had every right to, and he was eternally grateful for that.
