With the absence of stalwarts like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at this year’s Laver Cup, everyone expected team world to have a fair chance of defeating team Europe to clinch their first ever title in four years.

Also, the fact that the fourth edition took place at TD Garden in Boston prompted many to have Team World as favorites to win the title. However, things didn’t go well for McEnroe’s team as they managed to win only one match in three days, and lost eventually to Bjorn Borg’s team.
On Sunday, Europe needed only one doubles match to clinch their three points and claim their fourth consecutive title. The doubles pair of Alexander Zverev and Andrey Rublev got a stiff competition from Reilly Opelka and Denis Shapovalov throughout the match.
Even though Team World lost the first set, they didn’t lose their serve in the second set and it had to be decided on a tie-breaker. It was in the breaker where Team World got extensive support from the Boston crowd as they ensured Opelka and Shapovalov win the second set.
McEnroe appreciates Roger Federer for showing up at this year’s Laver Cup
The match went into a final ten-point tie-breaker which was sealed by Team Europe. Right throughout the event, it was team Europe who managed to play the big points extremely well and became the rightful champions of the Laver Cup.
During the post-match presentation, team world’s captain John McEnroe talked about the team spirit carried out by his team and congratulated Team Europe on yet another dominating performance.
The legendary American player also appreciated Roger Federer for turning up to the event and made his presence felt in all three days.

“First of all, the fact that Roger Federer came. Absolutely amazing. Unbelievable. I don’t know where he is. there he is. Roger, total class act”, said McEnroe.

Despite putting up a solid effort in doubles matches, Team World players couldn’t continue the dominance in singles matches which led to their downfall this year as well. With this defeat, John McEnroe and his team will want to lay their hands on the title at London next year.
