Although the 2022 season has begun on a dramatic note, there is light at the end of the tunnel. In some positive news for the tennis world, World No.1 Novak Djokovic is now likely to play the Australian Open. The defending champion at the first Slam of the year, Djokovic faced a number of issues in the build-up to the tournament. After the recent update, however, global icons have responded to the same.

Last season was a roller-coaster one for 20-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic. After beginning the year in flawless fashion, he faced a minor glitch towards the end. Running out of steam, Novak conceded the Olympic Games as well as the US Open. With a growing concern for the Covid-19 pandemic, Djokovic made a bold call with regard to his health. This put his participation in various tournaments at risk, including the Slam Down Under.

Global celebrities react to Novak Djokovic confirming his Australian Open 2022 participation

Having been granted medical exemption by Tennis Australia, the 34-year-old was then detained in Melbourne. Characteristically, there were some reported problems with his visa. Over the next few days, ‘Djoker’ was stuck in no man’s land, stuck in a hotel. But after a recent court hearing, it has been confirmed by the Serbian sensation himself, that he will be taking part in the 2022 Australian Open.

Responding to the positive news, several celebrities have expressed their joy. Retired ATP star Marcos Baghdatis commented, “I am so happy for you my friend.” Added to this, NFL icon Tom Brady wished him well, saying, “Good luck.” Canadian star and close friend Vasek Pospisil also made his feelings known, stating, “We are all with you man!” 

Social media sensation Khaby Lame was not far off with his comment, “Good luck.” And while UFC fighter Aleksandar Rakic told Djokovic to chase the 21st Slam, football mainstays like Ivan Rakitic and Miralem Pjanic also congratulated the Serbian.

The world is definitely with Novak Djokovic. With no extra motivation required, the World No.1 will go all out in his bid for major number 21. However, the competition in front of him is stiff. Will Novak retain his title?
