Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer has wrapped up his illustrious career. The 41-year-old made a return to court after over a year and played his last match at the Laver Cup. He partnered with the Spanish tennis star and his arch-rival Rafael Nadal to play against Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe. Unfortunately, it didn’t turn out to be the fairy tale match the fans were expecting. As the American duo got the better of their Team Europe rivals, what followed was a teary-eyed farewell for Federer.

However, the Laver Cup is still on. Later Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini won a tough match against Felix Auger Aliassime. He was quick to acknowledge the role of Federer in his career.
Berrettini pays tribute to Roger Federer
Roger Federer is a name that is famous beyond the tennis followers as well. Over the years, the Swiss maestro has excelled and ruled the game. He is one of the main reasons behind the rising popularity of tennis today. It’s no surprise that he inspired many young players from different generations. One such player is Italian tennis star Matteo Berrettini. The 26-year-old revealed that Federer is the reason behind his interest in tennis.

He said, “I couldn’t sleep, I was really emotional. I told him actually why we are crying. Everyone was crying, and the reason was why I chose to be a tennis player is because of him.”
Berrettini further narrated a story from his young days. “He probably doesn’t know when I was a kid and he was in Rome. I was trying to sneak into the center court because I didn’t have a ticket and he was my idol and inspired me so much.”

Roger Federer had everyone in tears in his speech after the last match. The 41-year-old had his wife and kids watching him play for one last time. Embracing them, the former world number 1 credited his wife for the incredible support she gave him.
Further, the 20-time Grand Slam champion consoled his kids who were in tears, reassuring them that he is happy. The emotions were visible all over the court. His biggest rivals Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic were also in tears.
