World Number 1, Novak Djokovic, is on cloud 9 this year. Following a turbulent last season, he has come back strongly this year and won a host of big titles. The Serb became the first player to win 24 Grand Slam titles, by capturing 3 major titles this year. Additionally, he also won a couple of Masters titles in Cincinnati and Paris. Ahead of the ATP World Tour Finals, Djokovic made a big claim on breaking several records.

Over the years during his tennis career, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has had his name on many records. However, there are three notable records that are yet to be overtaken by him. Let’s find out which records Novak Djokovic can break before retiring.

Novak Djokovic eyes Jimmy Connors’ record

American tennis legend, Jimmy Connors, holds the record for the most number of ATP singles titles to his name. The 71-year-old has 109 titles and leads the second-placed Roger Federer, who has 103 titles. However, with both the players not active, the third-placed Djokovic has a golden opportunity to overtake both Federer and Connors.

With the Paris Masters victory, Djokovic has won 97 titles, adding to his illustrious career. Although he is still distant from Connors’ haul of 109 titles, given the form he is in and the fact that he seems to improve with age, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Djokovic overtakes him. Apart from this record which might seem difficult to break, the Serb also has some relatively easier records to break.

Most ATP Finals titles

Novak Djokovic has already qualified for the year-ending ATP World Tour Finals after stellar performances throughout the season. He is aiming to end the year on a high by winning that tournament in Turin. If Djokovic is successful at that event, he will not only end the year at the top spot on the ATP rankings chart but also overtake Roger Federer.

Currently, both Federer and Djokovic are tied for the first spot for the most ATP Finals titles with 6 apiece. Djokovic can notch up his 7th win at the tournament later this month and become the player with the most titles in this tournament. However, he will face stern challenges from stars like Carlos Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev at the ATP Finals.

Grand Slam record in three majors

Another record that Novak Djokovic will have in sight is a unique one comprising three Grand Slams, the Australian Open, the US Open, and the Wimbledon Championships. The Serb already has the most Australian Open titles to his credit, winning 10 trophies at that tournament during his illustrious career. He leads the second-placed Federer by a big margin of 4.

Further, he needs just one title at the US Open and the Wimbledon Championships to match the most number of titles in those tournaments. At the US Open, he has 4 titles, one behind Federer, Jimmy Connors, and Pete Sampras. On the other hand, he trails Federer’s eight Wimbledon titles by just 1 title, having recorded 7 victories at the grass-court Grand Slam tournament. Thus, with victories at the US Open and the Wimbledon Championships, Djokovic can create a unique record in three majors.

Yesterday, Djokovic got the better of Grigor Dimitrov comfortably to win his 40th Masters title. He has been on a roll this season, and his performance in that match nicely summarized his dominant display this year. After the match, Djokovic made a cheeky remark about the possibility of breaking records.

Talking about this, he said, “I’m going for all possible records, all that I can break. I’ve never had a problem saying that. And that’s why people don’t like me. I didn’t pretend like some people.. to say that it’s not my goal, and then to behave differently after… I always tried to be in line with what I believe.”
