In October 2023, category 5 hurricane Otis hit the Mexican coastal city of Acapulco, which was the eye of the hurricane for almost 2 hours. It caused significant damage across the city. Destroying homes, hotels, and businesses, the wreckage included the newly built GNP Seguros Arena, which was inaugurated in 2022.
Hurricane Otis was recorded as one of the most powerful storms to make landfall in the history of the country. It killed at least 48 people and the Mexican tennis paradise was completely surrounded by debris. However, 3 months have passed since that incident and now it has started to revive itself ahead of an upcoming ATP event.
